Fiat chops the price of the 500 due to slow sales

Fiat has chopped $1000 off the base price of the 500 in the U.S., and $2k from the mid-trim car to address falling sales.

That makes the base 500 MSRP $14,995.

"Year-over-year, sales Fiat’s U.S. sales have declined every month this year."

    From: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...s-vacate-brand

Has anybody driven one of these? I haven't.

It never seems to get mentioned in comparisons against the Mirage. Most often we hear about the Spark (or the Micra in Canada, Celerio in other countries).

I think the 500's niche is just too small. It doesn't really excel in anything except looking quirky...
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

Exactly. I've driven one, and it's not a bad car by any means. It's tiny inside though and being only a 2 door, already misses out on a huge potential market.

I agree and even though it's a subcompact, fuel mileage isn't that great either.

I think the 500 is actually smaller than my Firefly/Metro.

And then there's the same old usual, expensive, repair pattern. FIAT=Fix It Again Tony.

Agreed. The car's biggest problem is people have figured out that, while cute and fun, it's STILL A FIAT. There is a reason Fiat had to tuck tail and run from the US market 30 years ago.

I have read about a lot of reliability problems with these cars.

I'm still keeping my eyes open for a cheap Abarth. That will be a great little pickup in another year or two on the cheap.

Yeah, I'd drive the hell out of a cheap Abarth. Those are about $25k new.

Unfortunately they are quite heavy for the size they are.
