Good read. I think the only concern going turbo is tuning, especially on the 15+ models with the MAF. Going turbo would be fun. I've looked into it and I don't think there would be 'major' issues. I think the only 'hard' part is finding or making a exhaust manifold for the turbo charger. Me, personally, I think a Evo 3 16g or even a small 16g would be really fun. As for the tuning part, a sweet-'old' S-AFC would probably be the "easiest and cheapest" way for tuning. It'd be fun to have some boost

We have had a couple of reports of head gasket failure on the forum. I would be worried that boost would contribute to this. But it would be interesting to see how the 3A92 holds up under boost.

Some info in the gt12 turbo. Looks promising but I know nothing about turbos.
On their website you can compare different turbocharger profile maps side by side. This one looked good, and there was another IIRC, that offered good looking efficiency islands.

This one, IMO, seems like the one. We'd be all up in that 77% island.

I agree that looks a little too big but plenty usable!

Here is a chart for cfm@pressure converted to lbs of air for the mirage engine. I used 88% volumetric efficiency for the calculator input.

Just for fun i plotted out the turbo map at 10psi, 3500rpm full boost.

Good hunting GRNBN looks like like a pretty decent fit. For surely application usable! (Lower a/r numerically or a smaller wheel this would be ideal size)

Imagine how nice that 3k-5k torque plateau would feel. I like that, with this particular model, neither the motor nor the turbo should be overly straining themselves within the ideal boost window.

EDIT: update as of 1/17, it looks as if the model of turbocharger we're discussing can be sourced from 2003+ Saab 9-3's. If you search fleabay for gt2052 turbocharger linear you should get results ranging from ~300-600 for used to OEM rebuilt turbo assemblies. Someone with a little pocket money and a nice bit of luck at the local Pick'n'Pull could make the first major step towards a turbo Mirage in the continental US.

I said this backwards can't believe no one caught this... numerically LOWER a/r for the turbine.

I think the whole project could be done exceedingly cheep (under $1500) if you used megasquirt. But you would lose a lot of the cars features, as the canbus portion of MS is notoriously garbage lol

Hopefully Hiram pulls thru with a boost sensitive and reasonably tuned plug n play. If he does you could turbo a mirage in a matter of days, and I will be doing just that.. something like 14 second 1/4 mile and 50mpg sounds like a reasonable goal.
