An update on the exhaust set up after driving it around for 2 weeks. First it's definitely loud and has a bassy resonance at Low rpms of 1200 to 1500rpm. This becomes more apparent once the exhaust has warmed up. If the cops were beside me, I can't even move off the line slowly as it's loud when just about to move off. Funny thing is as I rev it up it's less loud.
In terms of performance I lost Low end torque for sure. Engine braking is noticeably reduced. The car seems to want to glide forever.
Vibrations wise were increased. This is due to removal of the exhaust donut gasket and spring bolts and directly bolting them to a flat flange. The vibrations had no where to go. This is especially apparent when aircon is off as the rpms were very Low and the engine vibrates much more.
Posted the video of the vibes here: https://youtu.be/8oYJXhXjjTI
To reduce the sound level of the exhaust. I ended up ordering a Vibrant 2.25" ultra quiet resonator. Got it installed in the location where the cat was. The space there was limited and the vibrant was too wide and had to be installed vertically. Due to the space constraint the Hks muffler had to drop down a little to provide enough clearance on the TOP for the vibrant. Final result is the two are hanging about an inch below the lowest part of the car. Hope it doesn't get hung up on the speed bumps.
The exhaust shop had a reducer to reduce the 2.25" vibrant to 2" for some back pressure. Happy with the results. The loudness has been reduced by a big margin and it sounds close to stock. I regained my Low end performance and engine braking just like stock was. Very happy with the vibrant. Initially the exhaust shop wasn't convinced it's going to make much difference due to the small size and straight through design of the vibrant. I will record the sound with the vibrant soon.
Now I am left with my Super Circuit headers to install. Hopefully the flex pipe in the headers will absorb most of the vibrations.
Anyone had replaced the headers themselves? Was it hard?
