Darin - based on Vespa's comparison of the 2015 to the 2017 Mirage, you definitely should borrow a 2014 or 2015 for comparison.

I was using the handling as an example.

Where are these structural bracings in the open back of the hatchback? I can almost guarantee if you take the braces out and crash the same object right in front of the rear wheel on both the sedan and the hatchback, the hatchback would sustain more structural deformity. The welded in frame in the sedan would ultimately help this.

There are none, of course. I'm not sure I understand your point?

I agree with you here - the bracing, along with the rear deck/shelf, helps too.

Honestly, I don't know why Mitsubishi decided to add these - but they did. They went through the time and expense to design and add them.

I'm glad they made a hatchback - I like mine.

    Done!

I met up with strawboss this weekend, and compared notes on the 2017 vs. his 2015 CVT. We both noticed:

    - steering is significantly better in the 2017
    - suspension is firmer, body roll is reduced
    - noise & vibration from the engine into the cabin is reduced

My full comments on the differences are in Vespa's thread.

Yes, nuts welded in place. They look like normal welds to me.

Looks the same as the '17 hatchback:

See: I took a rear axle pic of one of the first '17s...

    Rear seat room

I remember thinking the back seat room (legroom) in the Mirage hatchback was surprisingly generous. The sedan blows it out of the water.

In Canada, Mitsu advertises the G4 as "best in class", and I can see why. (I'm not sure if the same claim is made in the States, because the Nissan Versa sedan may have more legroom... if it's in the same class.)

I'm average height (5'10"). Check out how much room I have when sitting "behind myself" (driver's seat adjusted for myself):

I might set my seat a little bit closer to the controls than the average person.

There's more usable rear seat legroom in the Mirage than in a 2004 Camry in our family. How is that possible? Because the Mirage's seat is a bit higher off the floor, and you can get your feet under it and stretch out. Can't do that in the Camry.

That is quite funny. More legroom than a Camry???

    Confirmed: EPS steering fix

    Name: eps-light.jpg

As confirmed comparing strawboss' 2015 Mirage against the G4, the steering feel and self-centering in the 2017 model is much improved.

I confirmed it with a little test to see how the car's steering centers at low speed with no driver input.

Results: The EPS actively unwinds the steering much closer to center than when the EPS is disabled. With EPS disabled, the steering behaves like the 2014/2015 Mirages I've driven (steering doesn't self-center as much as expected).

This fix makes the car easier/more pleasant to drive.

I've posted details of the test with photos & video in a dedicated thread:

EPS (electric power steering) actively self-centers steering for 2017

hi Metro, thanks for the review thus far.

could you please post a pic or two of the interior upholstery, notably the front seats?
