The timing chain lubrication is a little bit complicated specially with variable valve timing like mivec. The timing chain tensioner or guide is moved in place to remove the timing chain slack by pressurized engine oil via an orifice around the cam area. Orifice in the chain guide squirts the motor oil to lubricate the timing chain.

Adequte engine oil pressure, unobstructed oil galleries and unblocked timing chain tensioning/lubrication orifice is needed. With every engine start, oil filter with no anti-drainback valve will delay the oil pressure build-up needed for this operation which cumulatively result to premature failure of the timing chain and its tensioner guide. Extended oil interval may cause restriction of critical orifices by thick build-up, and abrasive/oxidative wear of the chain link holes. Engine oil that fails to meet what is specified will increase the risk for timing chain failure.
