Hey Anog - how many oil changes can you get out of that 5 qt. jug? I'm wondering if 2.5 quarts can reach the bottom of the range on the dipstick.

I don't think you can squeeze two oil changes out of one 5 quart jug. Judging by the markers on the side, a new jug has a bit more than 5 quarts, and filling it to the middle of the range left me with exactly 2 quarts extra. I just bought another jug though, it's synthetic and still cheaper to buy than the individual quarts of conventional oil.

Good to know - thanks. I'm still on my free dealer oil change, and want to plan ahead.

I buy three five-quart jugs and one single quart of Mobil 1 0w-20 full synthetic and do five oil changes. It's around $85 for all of the oil.

The spec is 3.1 quarts with a filter, so after doing five oil changes I have about 1/2 a quart left over. That makes the cost of oil for each change about $16, and around $8 each change for a Fram Ultra.

So the total cost of each oil change is about $25, but I am using good oil and good filters. Dealership where I am charges $90 for this!

I don't trust anyone else to change my oil anyway...not even the dealership. Last time I had them do it they spilled oil all over the top of the valve cover and just left it. I had to remove the airbox and some other stuff to clean up their mess.
