    CVT jerk normal?

I am not sure if this is normal or not: my 2014 jerks at random times at low speeds when I give it gas. Picture this: you're rolling slowly to red light and as you approach the stop line, the lights go green and you give it gas - not WOT, but gentle throttle input. It jerks, sort of like a manual car. I am not sure if this is because CVT is downshifting when you're accelerating? Either way, I have driven a few mirages (courtesy cars) and they don't seem to have this jerk as pronounced as mine. Is this normal? Car has about 50K kms on it, I have been feeling it since last 20k or so.

Yes, but with 50K Km's wouldn't hurt to have the fluid changed in it. Have you checked the fluid level lately to make sure it's not low? The owner's manual describes the details how to check your level. Fluid level is critical on these CVT's. Too low or too much is not good.

I did think about replacing the CVT fluid some 8k kms ago; however the dealership told me these things are rated at 100k intervals and there will be warning light on the dash in case of cvt malfunction

This was already discussed here. I said exactly the same thing.

If you wait until the warning light flashes then your CVT has been damaged and suffered a malfunction. The Jatco CVT that the Mirage uses does NOT have a filter and the CVT belt is metal. At 50K Km I would definitely schedule it for a fluid change. I currently have 21K miles, plan on changing mine at 30K miles. If you have the dealer do it make sure they reset the CVT fluid degradation sensor in MUT3. Apparently there is a sensor that "reads" the CVT fluid degradation and should be reset when you change the fluid. It will not reset itself according the repair manual and needs to be manually reset in software.

Is there a special CVT fluid that our mirages use? I can buy my own and take it to dealership, since they will charge me arm and leg for it

For warranty purposes you might want to stick with the factory fluids.

Considering how finicky our CVTs are, don't cheap out on anything but recommended.
