Lightbulb Trying to find the lightest wheels possible.

So here I am at it again with more weight reduction ideas once more. So today, I'm looking for the lightest wheels I can possibly get, and the smallest too for fun. I have the factory 14x4.5 inch steel wheels with low profile tires that come to 25 pounds. The tire sizes on them is 155/55/R14. The other ones are aftermarket that are aluminum that is 26 pounds each. The tire sizes on those are 165/65/R14.

Now what I'd love to find is something lighter and smaller than 14 inch, such as 13x4.5 inch wheel. I don't care if it is steel or aluminum just the weight is my goal here. I found a 13x4.5 inch steel wheels for a Geo Metro but the problem is that it won't fit due to the lug nut pattern being 4x114.3mm and the Mirage is 4x100mm. not being the right size so that won't work. Trailer tires, yeah I looked that up too. No go. Trailer tires are not safe for use on a car anyways, but I was still curious.

So, I thought, why not ask you all and maybe see if you would know anything that would work. This is just mainly for fun. Getting my car as light as I can is something I enjoy doing which is why I do this. Thanks! I always appreciate the responses.

So again, something lighter than the stock steel wheels and smaller than the Mirage.

If you are talking "just for fun", if this donk can do a burnout on 30" clear plastic wheels, imagine how much lighter (thinner and smaller) 14" wheels *not* made for burnouts could be. https://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/12/...-glad-to-know/

Just a word of caution to readers of this post - 13" rims will not fit on a 2017+ Mirage, because of the updated brakes/rotors.

    Just sharing numbers - 155/55r14 tires (20.7" diameter) are quite small. That's a -7.6% tire variance from a factory 165/65r14 tire (22.4").

Personally, I'd rather have the proper diameter size (within a 3% variance) than lose one pound of weight. Shopping for 155/55r14 tires is worst than shopping for factory size tires.

What 13" tires are you wanting to use?

You didn't mention that price was a factor. So I'll throw this out there...

Ray's Engineering CE28N 15x6.5 wheels weigh less than 9 lbs. They are about $500 each (and that price doesn't include the center caps...lol). But here's a used set on eBay...

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rays-Engine...wAAOSwP8leEN3Q

They also make a 14" version that is even lighter.

Thanks guys, I just was curious that is all. What 13 inch tires would I want to use? Probably low profile. Whatever is the lightest and the most rolling resistance. I have the Achilles ATR-K Economist 155/55R14XL 75H BSW on my 14 inch rims right now with smoothie hub caps. They look awesome!

Did you mean to say the least rolling resistance?

Konig makes a 13" wheel that weighs 11 lbs.

    https://konigwheels.com/wheels/main-...eels/incident/

Using a 175/70r13 +.2 inches over the standard 165/65r14 this combo will put you right at 25 lbs total (tires weight seems to average about 14 pounds in this range). Using a 205/60r13 +.3 inches over OEM will put your tire/wheel combo right at 30 lbs total (tires weight seems to average around 20 lbs). The 175/70r13 there is a fair amount of selection (snow tires even) and they are cheap cheap cheap. The 206/60r13 is selection is far less and far more expensive.

And yes, only '14-'15 owners can use 13" rims. '17+ have the larger brake rotors and they will not fit.

Oh, I'm sure there are some 2014-2015 owners that would consider swapping brake (and suspension...) bits for the 2017 & up.

    Mix & match!

If you want to have fun, you install 205 wide R1R's or R888's, not cheap crap.

To that end, or, ignoring that end..., depending on how much clearance you have to the brakes, a set of 12" off of a Pontiac Firefly should match the bolt pattern, and last I checked Walmart still had 145/80r12's for them, if not people sell them used, just watch your DOT date, don't go TOO ancient.
