I had a similar smell with my Mirage the first few thousand miles ( now have 12,500 miles 16 months later) and is more than likely the undercoating buring off that is put on new cars especially with the higher revs things would have been a little warmer and burned off the remaining coating. Just a logical guess.

Another thing to think of on super steap hills you should always put the car in B on the gear shifter especially at lower speeds because it is a strain on the CVT if it is a really steep hill at low speeds and mine can almost feel as if it would want to stall like a manual car would if I go at a slower speed (5mph to 25mph). Keep in mind these cars only have 74 horsepower.

Ohhh I had the similar smell, but i was wondering whether it was a car/trunk in front of me or from my Mirage... granted it was a pretty flat highway though...
