It's interesting to look at the carbon buildup in relation to the direction of the spark plugs. I wonder if indexing them in the direction of the exhaust valves would be best for keeping things clean.

The engine was replaced under warranty.
I also have a complete list of measurements down to combustion chamber volume, I'll post up when I find it..

The clean cylinder is only clean due to the blown head gasket. The coolant does a nice job of steam cleaning off the carbon build up. You can also do this at home with a large syringe of water, metered very slowly into the intake whilst holding the RPM above 3000; be very careful, you can hydraulic lock the engine if you get too keen!

Wilbur,
. . . . I noticed the burning on the top of the cylinders where the head gasket was supposed to provide the seal. I also noticed the scuffing on the cylinder walls. The valves show no signs of burning. I am surprised by that considering that this engine had to be overheating. The owner was doing their oil changes as shown by the lack of sludge inside the oil passages and the top of the cylinder head. I tell people that maintaining the coolant system is just as important as changing the oil.
GOD Bless and Thanks,
rich!
