I believe he has the correct belt, and the difference in length may be an inside versus outside measurement of the belt.

For example, the Auto Zone Duralast belt has an inside length of 1230 mm & an outside length of 1242.8 mm (that's converting the inches given to mm).

The US doesn't typically use Metric. It's not the end of the world if a belt is a few mm off imo. I use the gates K060483... I do have to back off the tensioner bolt most of the way to get the belt on but it works. The 483 means the belt is 48.3(48.31") =1227mm long. It's fine.
A 1240 mm belt is 48.81" long. So less than half an inch. The 1240mm belt might be ideal and easier to install but having a slightly shorter one won't do any harm whatsoever. Though I guess in some countries you'd be be-headed for doing something so wreckless?

Buying a serpentine belt for a Mirage in the States is not an issue (zero concern). The main difference in belts would be Mirages with or without A/C. Unlike Canada, all Mirages comes with A/C in the States.

I could go into town today & pick up an in-stock serpentine belt for my Mirage at an Auto Zone. They carry two of them. I bought their Continental Belt 4060485 for about $30 quite some time ago. It's stored inside my spare tire. I bought the Continental, because it had a better 3-year warranty. Their Duralast Belt 485K6 for about $18 has a one-year warranty. I felt the Continental belt may be superior, but that's an assumption on my part.

You can find Dayco belts on the rockauto.com site, & they tend to be cheaper belts. They have two different ones to pick from, & they are only $11.17 & $10.64 plus whatever shipping would be. I never make the assumption that OEM parts are superior to aftermarket ones. Especially, when it comes to things like belts & filters.

Rock Auto also lists a few belts for Mirages without A/C. Thus, they would be the shorter ones. If you are ordering one from them, you would want to take note of that.

It's not uncommon for belts to list their effective length & outside circumference. If you are trying to compare apples to apples, it's important to make sure you are comparing the same thing.

The Duralast belt has an effective length of 48.43"/1230mm & an outside diameter of 48.98"/1244mm.

The Continental belt I bought has an effective length of 48.5"/1232mm. The outside diameter is not listed, but also not real important.

Just listing a few more effective lengths -

Dayco are 48.5"/1232mm
A/C Delco are 48.31"/1227mm
Gates are 48.31"/1227mm

If we are comparing apples to apples, we are looking at a effective length range of about 1227mm to 1232mm = 5 mm.

Rock Auto has drawings that show the belt configuration on the car.

A Mirage belt for a car without A/C has a very different belt configuration. The effective length of a Gates belt w/o A/C is only 35.26"/896mm. I don't think you're going make that one work unless you decide to remove/by-pass your A/C unit.

The pictured belt is for Mirage with A/C. It is size 6PK1240 in adherance to international standard, but also carries the label 488K6, which may be more common in non-metric countries. Those last few being Liberia, North Korea and the USA.

Dayco belts recommended in our market are -

DAYCO 5060485 @ $10.64 is 48.5" effective length belt = 1231.9 mm

DAYCO 5060485DR @ $11.17 is the same size I assume. The DR = Drive Rite (whatever that means?)

Your belt 488K6 belt # I assume represents 48.8" & K6 refers to 6 ribs on the belt. What's not clear is the 48.8" - does that represent effective length or outside circumference?

We are really splitting hairs & nothing more I believe. A Gates belt is about the three times the cost of a Dayco belt here. A Gates belt has an effective length of 48.31" (1227 mm) & an outsider circumference of 48.871" (1241 mm).

If your Dayco 488K6 belt # represents the outside circumference of the belt, it's within 1 mm (1240mm vs 1241mm) of the more expensive Gates belt.

All the belts recommended in our market seem to be within 5mm (effective length) of each other. You may be sharing a belt that expresses its outside circumference? No big deal, it just confirms why I think you have to make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

If your belt was truly different, then I would assume the pulley on the A/C or alternator are different in some way. I don't think our belts are different, however. Not different enough to lose sleep over at least!
