Well, at that price it won't be a knock out of the park that Mitsu really needs here in the US... And unfortunately I can already see the car reviewers commenting on the engine size.

I agree. If they can't lay claim to the best price, they're going to have to try moving them based on (A) the fuel economy, and (B) the warranty.
Good luck with that! Bot obviously they've done their homework and decided it's worth a shot.

Well they are selling pretty darn good in other markets. Lets hope the trend stays true!

RapidRick (08-22-2013)
It would seem to me, as a soon-to-be car buyer, that the real question is how much will the dealers actually let one go for?
I have searched to death and there is no information available about what the dealer invoice will be. The difference between invoice price and MSRP are $538 for the Nissan Versa SV and $600 for the Chevy Spark LT (both with CVT), so I am guessing that the dealer invoice of a base model (with CVT) would be around $14,100-$14,200?
I have preliminary offers for a Chevy Spark at invoice -$200, and a Nissan Versa at invoice -$100, so I would say that to even compete they are going to have to let these cars roll off the lot at about 14K.
I also have to wonder if the 500 rebate that is being offered in Canada would happen here in the US? Does that money come from the manufacturer? Would the dealer still be willing to work the price down if there is already 500 free dollars dangling out there?
Many questions to be answered soon....

Good questions...
I believe the $500 Canadian incentive is from the manufacturer, and the info Mitsu Canada sent out yesterday ends with the standard "dealer may sell for less" line.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
So, RapidRick: is your decision going to be based solely on purchase price?

No, but the purchase price plus the gas mileage are the two main factors.

This will be interesting to see how the mirage goes in the USA at this price and they may well offer discounts like they have done here in Australia.
