I took apart my air box snorkel and bonded it together to eliminate the annoying rattle.
Posted here if you want to see a little of how I did it.

I removed my snorkel last night to experiment with. I've been having some annoying airbox resonance lately under light throttle while driving through my neighborhood. I figured it's likely caused by having the air cleaner assembly basically solid mounted cause the rubber grommets are toast and the plastic where the grommets mount is all wallered out. Noise is gone now that the resonator is off. Under light throttle it's not noticable, floor it and it sounds similar to a flipped air cleaner lid on an old GM V8. Race car....
I don't know if I'll be able to tell if mpg is any different, the weather is never consistent and that seems to play the biggest role in why I see mpg changes.

That is exactly the issue I had but mine has been doing it since about 7,000 miles. Maybe before. My grommet is in fine shape still.
I had the same results driving without it.
One other cause on the 17+ is an exhaust hanger. I see they changed they're different on these 23"s I've been tinkering with

I'm planning on lifting my mirage 1" from stock, putting much bigger tires, and tow hitch. Slim basket rack coming in soon.

As a basket rack owner there are some things to consider. Buy a welded rack, not one you bolt together. Go for aluminum, Low corrosion, light weight, reflective. Buy one with an included 2" ->1 1/4" adapter. Ericson makes an aluminum basket that meets these specs. However, my Ericson rack was designed for a 2" receiver so a $40 adapter was needed. What I like about my adapter is that it raises the basket height 4" or so. Here's the adapter I had to buy: https://www.amazon.ca/MaxxHaul-50397...08F2YFVBM&th=1
The new Ericson design has a straight 1 1/4" -> 2" adapter like the one shown. This is the exact style aluminum, Ericson basket, rated for a max of 300 lb. , in bright, that I have. Note with this style basket you MUST buy the adapter. My old style did not come with an adapter. https://www.princessauto.com/en/53-1...t/PA0008895781
Now, IMO on a low car like the Mirage you want as much rise in the receiver as you can get. Even with 4" rise I have with my adapter I still have to be very careful going over low curbs and even backing up on a slope. It's very easy scrape the ground. Another issue is the basket will rock left and right, perhaps as much as 3-4" inches. You want to make sure you have all the weight balanced on the pivot point of the basket. If the basket starts to pivot backing up it's easy to catch a basket corner on the ground. You can fashion or buy straps to keep the corners of the basket from moving.
One more thing. I have used my basket upside down to avoid loading heavy items (snowblower) over the railing. That works great but again you have to be very careful going over any bumps and your load has to be firmly tied down to not shift.

Thanks for the tips! I just looked at some receivers and will get a 4" riser.

Just added a skinny basket rack. Used sealant on the connection points and sprayed it with bedliner.
