    Curt hitches

    Code: C11394 - 2017 Mirage

    Code: C11449 - 2017 G4

According to etrailer.com, they don't look the same to me. The pics look very different, too!

If you are using a cargo carrier on the Curt hitch, the Mirage one has a 200 pound tongue capacity, and the G4 one has a 150 pound tongue capacity.

I personally prefer the Curt. IIRC the Drawtite is a 2 pc. unit bolted in the middle. I don't like that. I have no doubt a 1 pc. Curt will ever break or fail. I am surprised the part numbers for the G4 and hatch are different, I thought one I played what it at Amazon, maybe I didn't.

Look at them yourself & see the difference -

No way they could be the same number. Tongue capacity isn't even the same.

Agreed, every different. The G4 is also more expensive. That makes little sense unless Curt thinks the sales numbers will be lower so they want a higher margin. Maybe. Last time I looked on Amazon they were available they were $350 for the hatch. I paid $133 in 2019 and got a chintzy drawbar thrown in.

They don't do it for margin. They charge more for a G4 hitch (for example) because procurement costs per unit are higher with fewer units. And there are fewer G4's out there.

It's the ole, "buy 50k feet of tubing for $1 a foot, or buy 10k feet of tubing for $2 a foot" math. It's what they face. It's what they must overcome or close their doors.

I face the same issue with something that I conceived, designed, tested, have manufactured, and sell online.

Today I let my dealer install the OEM Accessory Cargo Storage (called "Accessoires Box" optional extra over here) in my Space Star.

It used to be a default extra in the upper few trim levels (I used to have it in my 2018 Space Star) here. Until 2022 only the highest trim level got it at default. As of 2023, it's always a paid extra.

    Happy to have it back.

    Good for you!

In the U.S., just about every dealer service department would F up that job.

I will face the same thing as well if my torsion bar proves durable. If it is, and I suspect the problem with the others will not be in mine, then I will look at what other vehicles out there could benefit and try to determine what kid of demand there might be.

I have a spare tire there instead.

I should have taken a picture, my poor Mirage was beaten up in snowstorms and slop, packed to the gills with a 60" tool box for trailer fronts or large rear carriers. It's a really nice kit, all aluminum, gas pistons on the lid, stainless hardware but it's BIG. 60" wide, about 20"" deep and 20" tall. Mounted on the front of my AL 5x8 trailer it will carry everything, bottle jacks, spare tires, tarps, tie downs, basic tools. It's large enough my folding AL ramps will fit in as well. I like buying stuff like this used. New it was $600. I paid $100. Oh, my poor car is filthy inside as the box was on the ground and the bottom was covered in leaves and some grunge which transferred nicely to my car.
