What did you do to your Mirage today?

Ah! I'm a bit late to this but I replaced my brakes a month ago. Replaced the old front brakes/pads with the Powerstop Kit

It was oil change time for me. This is the first time I know I'll be running 0W-20. Last time I filled up with 5W-20 (or 5-30 I forget) which isn't bad at all, but I look forward to see if I can tell any difference. I do not anticipate I will though.




They're finally done with construction on the road I live on, so I cleaned up the windows and they got rain-x treatment. As a side note, I highly recommend Sprayway window cleaner. It really works great.





Last, but not least, the interior also got cleaned up for the winter as I will not be doing it again until spring...

I changed my serpentine belt tonight. Not because it looked worn or damaged at 130,000 miles, but just because I felt like it was time...especially with the weather starting to get bad. No pics, because I did it at night. You will need:

1) New belt. I used a Dayco Poly Cog #5060485 because it was $20 shipped instead of the OEM 1340A146 belt, which usually runs about $50. Normally, I would go OEM, but I have always had good luck with Dayco belts. This belt, however, is just barely long enough.

2) A ratchet with a 12mm socket, or a 12mm box-end wrench.

3) About 5-10 minutes of free time.

There are two bolts, both painted blue, right on top of the alternator bracket. Loosen the short pinch bolt first, then loosen the long adjuster bolt as far as it takes to get the belt off. If you are using the Dayco belt, you might as well turn the adjuster bolt out as far as it will go. Slide the old belt off, being mindful of it's routing. Slide the new belt on, being sure to get the routing right. Tighten the adjuster bolt until the belt is good and tight (it will stretch anyway, so a little too tight is better than a little too loose). Tighten the pinch bolt.

Go have a beer. You are done! It is the easiest serpentine belt you will ever change.

I beg to differ. Olds Cierra circa 1988. Socket (forget size) with 24" extension. Put socket on tensioner. Pull back on extension. Old belt almost falls off. Loop new belt around all pulleys but tensioner. With socket on tensioner pull on extension. Slip belt over tensioner. Done.

Total time <2 minutes.

Walmart goofed and put 10w30 Mobil 1 in my '17. Since then I've set personal mpg bests. I'm sure it's all down to my new driving style and nothing to do with the oil viscosity. YMMV.

As for what I did with my Mirage, let me see.....

The Macally is decent, it gets the tablet up and away from the shifter. The tablet does partly block the hvac controls but nothing impossible. The other mount forces the tablet to stay low, sort of wedged in front of the shifter. I'm not keen on that. However, it doesn't wobble at all where as the Macally will need some velcro or something at the top of the stalk to keep the tablet from pogoing around.

If the weather gets better my '17 will get the LED headlights installed and my '14 gets the LED fog bulbs installed. And snow tires will go on my '14. Maybe. There's no great hurry here.

Maybe I'm missing something but that sounds like a more reasonable choice than buying a touchscreen radio with navigation. Instead, keep the cheap radio and use a tablet of your choice to play whatever media through the bluetooth. Plus, you can easily take the tablet out and remove the temptation for theft.

So why did you get yours? You'll have to let us know how that works.

Where I live property crime is pretty low. Summer of '17 my Vue got left in the driveway with the passenger door open and the dome light on. There were things in it worth stealing but in the 48 hours it was left that way it wasn't touched. It might be a different thing away from my house and I might be better off with a mounted radio. I do know that the tablet won't be getting put away whenever I go somewhere and park.

These holders are probably just interim solutions until nav heads can be located. My phone is a little small to navigate on and the media player interface on it isn't optimal. I use Garmin handheld GPS units on my bikes to navigate and although they have much smaller screens they are fine. It's likely because they aren't touch operated and their controls all operate fine with gloves.
