I wonder who has better winter soldiers? Russia or Canada?

I couldn't tell you who has the best winter soldiers overall, but I believe many would consider Simo Hayha of Finland to be one of the best winter soldiers of all time. He fought during the Winter War of 1939-40 against the Soviet Union. The Russian soldiers called him "The White Death", & he is consider the deadliest sniper of any major war.

"Over the course of the Winter War, which lasted roughly 100 days, Hayha killed between 500 and 542 Russian soldiers, all with his antiquated rifle. While his comrades were using state-of-the-art telescopic lenses to zoom in on their targets, Hayha was fighting with an iron sight, which he felt gave him a more precise target.

He also noted that several targets had been tipped off by the glint of light on the newer sniper lenses, and he was determined not to go down that way.

Hayhaalso developed an almost foolproof way of not being sighted. On top of his white camouflage, he would build up snowdrifts around his position to further obscure himself. The snowbanks also served as padding for his rifle and prevented the force of his gunshots from stirring up a puff of snow that an enemy could use to locate him.

As he lay on the ground in wait, he would hold snow in his mouth to stop his steamy breaths from betraying his position.

Hayha's strategy kept him alive, but his missions were never easy. For one, conditions were brutal. The days were short, and when the sun set, temperatures rarely rose above freezing."

Even though his jaw/face was severely injured from the war, he lived to age 96. Quotes taken from -

I came across this piece of history years ago, because my oldest daughter lives in Helsinki.

Very interesting Mark! I've heard of this man, a national hero in Finland. I used to think Finland was Scandinavian like Norway and Sweden, but I found out its a completely different language and culture. Very cool stuff my friend.

All the streets in Helsinki have both Swedish & Finnish names (dual street signs on every corner). Finland was once part of the Kingdom of Sweden. A part of the population speaks Swedish.

My daughter has passed her Finnish language exams a year ago to become a dual citizen of Finland/USA. If you want to become a new citizen of Finland, you must master their language. Not a bad requirement in my mind. When I was there in 2017, Finland was celebrating their 100 year anniversary of their independence from Russia.

When anything goes wrong in their country, my son-in-law claims they blame the Russians. We just point fingers at Republicans & Democrats.

In the 15k miles I've owned the Blueberry, I ain't done never spurted the windshield warsher fluid.

I finally took the Blueberry for a short drive and while out I checked the earl level. It was just a skosh above the full line, like it was over the previous 7,500 miles. And looked really clean and pretty.

Wow, must be nice! I don't go through a lot but lately the roads have been a combination of ice and sloppy mess. I probably go through more juice on nice summer days when I get a cling on tailgater. Tailgaters get a free windshield wash. It's funnier if it's a nice clean car.

I modded my reservoir with a bent coat hanger and a torch to so it fills up completely.

That's AWESOME, I love it. I'll have to pump up the pressure in my VW reservoir
