While 175s work fine on the Mirage, I am not sure why anyone would want to switch to them. Five years ago, there were only two options for replacement 165/65 tires...the OEM Dunlops, and Bridgestone Potenzas. Both were quite expensive, and had to be special ordered. This is why people with Mirages started running 175s in the first place.

Nowadays, tires in the correct size are much cheaper, much easier to find, and available from a number of manufacturers. If good 165s are available for $40ish dollars, why switch to $40 175s?

On the other thread it said that someone had a warranty claim for the transmission DENIED by the dealership because they could not figure out what the problem was and then noticed the dude had 175 tires and then they blamed the tires for the transmission failure.

As far as price look at this:

    https://www.oneclicktires.com/tires/...son-175-65r14/

These tires are $27.50 each + $35 shipping and no sales tax. Grand total of $145 for all 4 tires.

So there is def a cash incentive to go with the 175's. But now I am concerned about the psi thing. I am on stock tires still and have been filling them to 40 psi all 4 tires.

Yes, it is certainly possible to go 'ultra cheap' with 175s. But the last ultra cheap tires I bought I had to throw away after only a few miles. They were that bad.

I guess my point is that, while 175s will always be cheaper, 165s are no longer expensive. I'd rather spend $40-45 on Federals in 165/65-14 than pay $28 for 'Tang Wang Bangs' or whatever in 175/65-14.

Do you have a link to $28 Tang Wang Bangs?

The Mirage gets new rubber in Spring. I'll do some testing and share the wear results at 5psinincrements.

That's a valid concern, but have you checked your tread depth recently? Your treadwear might not be so bad.

    Plus, those gauges are affordable.

I don't see the need to buy 175/65r14 tires any more either. I think three good options exist outside of the more expensive 165/65/R14 Dunlop & Bridgestone tires.

Federal SS657 165/65R14 are a good starting point, & they seem to be a good value.

Nexen NPriz AH5 165/65R14 are $52.36 with free shipping @ tires-easy.com today. They have 50,000 mile warranty, which is slightly better than the Federal tires.

Vredestein Quactrac 5 165/65R14 are $75.91 with free shipping @ tirerack.com today. They may not wear as well as the Nexen, but they may provide a bit of extra snow/ice traction.

I wish that I was speaking from first hand experience, but reviews of these tires are decent. White Bear Mitsubishi offers 6 tire options for their Mirage customers, and the Nexen & Vredestein tires are two of their more affordable options.

My 2019 Outlander Sport has the Nexen NPriz RH7’s and I have to say I’m pretty impressed by them. Quiet, good wet and dry traction and most owners have stated they are easily getting 50k+ out of them in reviews.

I'd like to see more than anecdotal evidence as proof that Mits denied a CVT warranty due to tire size, especially when different size tires are used by Mits in different markets.

As for the alignment issue a case could be made for Mits having to fix any Mirage brought in with a defective axle, regardless of age. While it's not a life or death issue, not everyone is going to find out their axle is defective within 5 years /60k miles. IIRC Honda was held to fix all the rusty crap they made in the early 90's without regard to age or mileage.

Ultimately I plan on running 185/60R15 LRR Encopias. I like having a slightly wider tire that still provides excellent mileage and has a warranty.
