These things are practically FREE in Japan because of their strict Shaken Laws. It takes lots of work and lots of money to keep an older vehicle on the road over there. Vehicles have to be inspected every two or three years.

Once they fail an inspection they are really only good for two things: scrap or export.

In nearly all US states, you can title and license any vehicle that is over 25 years old...even if it is imported from another country. So we are seeing more and more of these wonderfully odd '80s and early '90s JDM cars coming here.

There are a couple outfits in Seattle that import rigs like this, and I am sure there are others on the West Coast. Most of the time these cars are pretty inexpensive since they cost very little to buy at auction in Japan. A van like this brought in by one of these companies might fetch $5,000-$7,000, depending on the exact model and demand.

They usually have VERY low miles.

I was in Vancouver, BC last fall, and saw a couple of these. They're super cool. I've never seen any in the US. I took pictures, because that's what I do when I see cars that are "rare" to me. You should see all the pictures I took in London and Edinburgh a couple years ago.

Yes, it's mine. 4D56 turbo-diesel, 5MT, 4WD w/low-range. It has 73,000 miles on it. Big plans for it, too.

Mitsubishi imported the a van to the U.S. simply called, well, "Van," from 1987 to 1990. For all intensive purposes, it was a Delica L300 van. However, they were only 2WD, had a 2.4-liter gas engine, and were (I believe) automatic only. They also had terrible US-spec 5mph bumpers up front. I remember being at White Bear Mitsubishi (White Bear Lake, MN) back in the late 1980s and seeing one on the showroom floor. I thought they were so cool because they had rotating captain's chairs in the back.

FYI, my first car was a 1992 Mitsubishi Expo LRV. My family has had about 7 or 8 Mitsubishi vehicles including a 1986 Mirage (Colt), 1990 Eclipse, 1992 Expo LRV, 1994 Eclipse, and 1997 Montero Sport. My mom recently traded in her Honda CR-V for a 2015 Outlander Sport, and I bough the Delica (and am entertaining the idea of a Mirage).
