CVT Failure (at 304,000 km / 189k miles, delivery vehicle)

I finally had a cvt fail in a Mirage. It has 304000kms on it. The driver had issue yesterday, car wouldn't shift. Like it was stuck in first gear. I took it for a short drive this morning. It seemed ok but upshifted too soon and it wouldn't downshift. I pulled into a parking lot to then the car felt like it was in 5th(if was a standard) then stalled. It fired back up and it shifted normal after that. I scanned it and came up with P0796,p0876, and P0285a. I decided to pull the oil pan to look for chunks and see if it's worth trying to fix or just replace it. It looks pretty bad! Not worth trying to patch this one back together.

I just found this. It looks exactly the same as the mirage. http://www.linesoon.com/index.php?un...rent=0&id=2267

    Blow that cooler out mang

    Edit: just followed your link...

So your suggesting that, that filter could be retrofitted? I would be curios why it's not there in the firstv place. Unrelated but Im reasonably sure there's no bushings in the door hinges, either. Lol

Great find if it works !

Hmmm...I'll be back later for the tear-down pictures.

I can't get your link to come up?!? Maybe it's because I'm at work.

I'm suggesting that the spark filter looks the same as the one I just pulled out of the car. The tranny pan gasket looks the same too. Here's the pic from that link Name: K015722.jpg

    Oh haha

Your pictures had me thinking the mirage was filterless with magnetic donuts vs an actual filter.

Either way, 190k miles out of a CVT is great!

I didn't know it had a filter til today. The car had relatively easy miles, 90% highway at 60-70mph. I'll be doing regular filter changes from now on.
Very unrelated but has anyone else gotten snow yet? It's coming down pretty good here right now!

How often was that CVT serviced? Nearly 200k miles is pretty good!
