CVT Failure (at 304,000 km / 189k miles, delivery vehicle)

I finally had a cvt fail in a Mirage. It has 304000kms on it. It looks pretty bad! Not worth trying to patch this one back together.

    Blow that cooler out mang

    Edit: just followed your link...

So your suggesting that, that filter could be retrofitted? I would be curios why it's not there in the firstv place. Unrelated but Im reasonably sure there's no bushings in the door hinges, either. Lol

Great find if it works !

Hmmm...I'll be back later for the tear-down pictures.

I can't get your link to come up?!? Maybe it's because I'm at work.

    Oh haha

Your pictures had me thinking the mirage was filterless with magnetic donuts vs an actual filter.

Either way, 190k miles out of a CVT is great!

How often was that CVT serviced? Nearly 200k miles is pretty good!

I just read through the CVT portion of the service manual and never saw anything explaining the removal and replacement of the filter?!?

You guys really think 190k miles on a highway cars trans is Good? I think that's not that good at all. Especially at 4k a pop.

200k on any original transmission is good.. and to put a $4k transmission in a used 200k car would be a silly choice, esp when low mileage cvts are going for 1/10 that cost.

Yes. The days of the Chrysler Torqueflite and the Ford C6 are over...and have been for a long time. The very conventional 3-speed slushboxes in the old Geo Metros were good for about half that.

Speck was a 2015 Mirage ES.

Replaced with a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor using the insurance payout & company Green Car incentive. No gas price anxiety, itís charged at home for around $4 - even less with solar. No oil or oil filter changes. No tune-ups - no spark plugs, engine air filters or squeaky snorkels. No rattly exhaust or emissions controls. No alternator, accessory belt, or timing chain. No piston slap or overpriced CVT. The benefits go on & on.

    Efficiency pays.
