    Angry This review is unbelievable

This review just makes my blood boil:

    https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/mitsubishi/mirage

Perhaps, the most outrageous thing in this review is

The Mitsubishi Mirage is not a very good car.
To whom is it not a good car? Maybe to someone expecting the 1.2 L engine to have the power of a 2 L engine or a luxury interior at the price point of the Mirage? These would be unrealistic expectations. For someone expecting a car that gets excellent gas mileage and for someone who understands that a car with great gas mileage and a small engine will not have the power of a car with a large engine and for someone who likes to have many great features at a low price, this car is excellent.

The authors of that review like to use the phrase "low rent materials" when talking about the interior of the Mirage, and they make a big deal out of the fact that the dash and arm rests are constructed of hard plastic. This week I had occasion to spend a lot of time in a Toyota Camry. The Camry is considerably more expensive than the Mirage and is arguably the flagship car in Toyota's lineup. I paid particular attention to the dash and other surfaces of the Camry and guess what? Hard plastic. So I guess the interior of the Camry is also "low rent" by the standards of that review.

Then they talk about the engine being anemic. I have not found the engine to be anemic. I find it quite adequate. Again, I don't think the authors appreciate the fact that you can't have excellent gas mileage and a huge, powerful engine at the same time. The authors seem to be reviewing the car for a purpose that exists only in their minds rather than for the purpose for which the car was designed.

The fact is that the Mirage is a great car for anyone who wants excellent gas mileage at a low price point with lots of nice features.

It's pretty typical. Most of the complaints about the $13,000 Mirage center on the fact that it isn't an $18,000 Honda Fit.

I love how they say you should buy the Fit, which is nearly 50% more expensive, if you have "a little wiggle room in your budget".

I can understand that the Mirage isn't for everyone.

    I'm glad I got one.

With the help of this forum I look forward to making my Mirage last as long as I can.

I don't really need a reviewers blessing to know I made the right choice.

Anymore, the negative reviews don't bother me so much.

I agree that the Mirage isn't the right car for everyone. But it is the right car for me. When I first came across negative reviews, I decided to not listen to them but to listen to myself and what I need in a car. And the Mirage fits that perfectly. I too am very glad I got a Mirage. It is exactly the car I've been looking for since my Geo Metro died ten years ago.

But this review still angers me because it is so one-sided. When they say that it's not a good car, one would think the Mirage is a car that falls apart the moment it leaves the showroom floor. They also say that it is "predicted" to be unreliable. Predicted? Why not ask people who own them how reliable they are? Also, the excellent warranty is just brushed upon and not given the attention it deserves.`

I too found it rich that they kept talking about the Honda Fit. Yes, the Honda Fit is considerably more expensive and doesn't get anywhere near the gas mileage that the Mirage does which are two of the main selling points of the Mirage. The only thing the Mirage and Fit have in common is that they are both subcompact hatchbacks. Again, they are two different cars aimed at two different types of consumers.

Well, the CVT is shared with a few cars that (from my understanding) have nothing but CVT problems. So too predict it being troublesome isn't exactly a stretch.it seems though, that the issues are caused with the programming because there's not to many issues here.

I can't really think of an apples to apples comparison for the Mirage, actually.

Kinda makes you wonder if they even drove one.

To repurpose a phrase: It's a Mirage thing - some folks just won't understand.
