I wondered about emissions for the Mirage, but didn't expect it to be considered as producing less than an electric car.

FuelEconomy.gov reports the 2015 Mirage emits more than the 2017.

Big win for petrol powered cars! Low emission production and drivetrain is better for small light cars. Always knew that electric and hybrid cars had higher production emissions.

My favorite part of the whole article was the comments section. Members of the "Elon Musk Fan Club" try to write the whole study off as some kind of diabolical MIT conspiracy against their messiah!

I thought the same thing. I finally had to just close my browser because I couldn't take it any more.

This is probably attributable to the EPA changing their testing standards for 2017. The only real difference between a '15 and a '17 is the '17 is a little heavier.

The Spark EV is much lower at 0.2 compared to 9 gallons for the Mirage. If they compared more accessible EVs to the Mirage, and not a car few of us could afford, they would figure out the emissions savings of EVs.

I am not at all knocking the Mirage. It is impressive for a fossil fuel powered car, but this was poorly executed in that they compared a car costing thousands more and far more powerful than a run of the mill pedestrian EV like a Fiat, Spark, or Leaf that we can buy Used for 7-10k, or new for about 20-25k.

I saw that too. One guy said the Mirage was 2400 lbs? Is the new one that heavy? Last time I checked my 2015 was 1940-1980lbs.

    The 2017 is 2,018 to 2,117 lbs.
