Jenkins Mitsubishi in Lakeland, Florida is selling the Mirage for <$9,000 again. Locally on the radio they keep advertising 7 to $8,000.

Wow...just be sure to read that dealer's fine print (and there's plenty of it). Here are the highlights...

    • Advertised prices don't include the $895 Destination Charge!
    • That dealer charges a Doc Fee of $899!!!!
    • Advertised prices include ALL Military rebates, loyalty rebates, and all dealer discounts
    • You may have to finance through that dealer to get all the incentives. I'm sure they have reasonable rates.

So if by some miracle, you actually qualify every discount they offer...you still need to add $1,800 onto the advertised price to account for the Destination Charge and Doc Fee. Yeah...that makes me want to do business with a dealer like that.

I don't know what's in the water in Florida, but those Doc Fees down there are insane!!!

Yeah, I understand that dealer fees are regulated by law in every state except Florida. I'm not sure why Florida voters allow that to continue.

If I recall correctly it has something to do with a hanging chad.

December U.S. sales & year end record

Mirage did it: the 5th straight year of increasing U.S. sales!

December saw 1748 Mirages & G4's delivered, an increase of 71% over Dec. 2017 (Fleet sales breakdown would be nice, though.)

Mitsubishi devoted 3 (THREE - count 'em!) bullet points to the Mirage's success in its press release:

    • While Mitsubishi's SUV and CUV lineup lead the brand's sales increases, the fuel-efficient and affordable Mirage and Mirage G4 bucked the industry trend away from passenger cars. For the calendar year, Mirage sales were up 8.6 percent.
    • Together, Mirage and Mirage G4 posted December sales of 1,748, up 70.9 percent over 2017.
    • The Mirage is the most fuel efficient, gas-powered, non-hybrid vehicle in America, offering an outstanding 36/43 mpg city/highway rating.
Also, for the first time, the Mirage out-sold the Chevrolet Spark in a full calendar year (24316 vs.
23602). Spark sales were down 41% in the last quarter of 2018 vs. Q4 2017. Given the Big 2.5's penchant for cancelling cars, I wonder how much longer they'll keep the littlest Chevy around.

Lastly, it was a banner month for the company, and a good year overall in the States...

...with its best sales since 2007. With 118,074 vehicles sold, total 2018 sales represented an increase of 13.9 percent over calendar year 2017. This marks the sixth consecutive year-over-year sales increase for the brand, and the second-straight year of sales over 100,000 units. The company surpassed the 100,000 sales milestone in early November, the soonest in 11 years.

I would also be curious to see a breakdown of how many G4s are being sold compared to hatchbacks.

It's nice to see the Mirage doing well, despite the negative press of some (not all) car critics. Gas prices have been relatively low, too! Apparently, others are seeing the sensible qualities of this car. A highly discounted Mirage is a great value! It affordable, reliable, & economical. The auto market is flooded with expensive vehicles with unproven technologies. The Mirage offers an alternative to all that. It's not a perfect car! Then again, a $60,000 pickup truck or SUV wouldn't be perfect for me either (no matter how good it is).

For what it's worth, here's a complete listing of small car sales in 2018:
