So according to carsalesbase.com, there were 1753 Mirages sold in the USA in December 2019. That brings the total for the year up to 26,966. It easily beats last year, and is another consecutive sales increase year. This, for a little econobox that's mostly been the same model run for 7 years in the USA, and a bit longer in other parts of the world.

I think this is pretty remarkable! I bought a lightly used Mirage in summer 2016, hoping it could somewhat be as economical, reliable, and someday have as awesome of a community as the Geo Metro had. With this latest sales triumph, I'm feeling really good about this car. For me it has been reliable and economical, and the community here at mirageforum is becoming what I hoped would be possible for this great little car.

Cheers everyone! We have a great little car, and great community here! Onward to 2020!

    665,000+ Mirages sold

emki - thanks for posting the numbers. I'll update the post #1 tables with totals .... and Canadian stats coming too.

Notable global sales factoid from a press release today about the 2021 facelifted model:

More than 665,000 Mirages have been sold globally (2012 to November 2019) in 90+ countries of which 138,836 units were sold in North America. By year-end 2019, 16,490 of Mitsubishi Mirages were purchased by Canadians since its launch.

Canada Dec sales & 2019 total

114 Mirages were sold in December in the Great White North, making 2019 the car's 6th consecutive year of declining sales (2270 for the year). Yup, the mirror opposite sales pattern compared to the States.

On a slightly positive note, the company notched a wee gain (+1.2%) in combined sales of all models in a year when the Canadian market declined overall (-3% ish).

    2020 numbers will be interesting...

With the Canadian Micra disappearing in 2020 and the newly facelifted Mirage arriving later this summer, it'll be interesting to see if Mitsu can reverse the Mirage's perennial sales slide here. Though they may have shot themselves in the foot by dropping the base (no-AC) Quebec Special trim and bumping up the starting price with standard automatic climate control.

I wonder if the slumping sales is because there is a perceived thought the Mirage might not hold up as well in Canadian brutal winters as it does in warmer climates? What about Mexico sales? Mitsu is back selling cars there again.

    January!

USA: 1511 Mirages sold (vs. 1570 last Jan)

Also noteworthy from 2019 year-end stats: The Chevy Spark managed a big late-game comeback, blocking the Mirage from out-selling it for the year.

    Spark 2019 sales: 31281
    Mirage 2019 sales: 26966

    =====

Canada: 118 Mirages (vs. 154 last Jan)

Shocker: Just tallied up the 2019 Canadian Micra/Mirage/Spark sales, and the Spark beat them all. In fact, Spark just had its best year in Canada, while Micra and Mirage declined.

There are approximately 440 Mitsubishi dealerships in North America. 350 in the States, & about 90 in Canada.

    31,281 Sparks / 3,000 U.S. Chevy dealerships = 10.4 Spark sales/dealership

    26,966 Mirage / 350 U.S. Mitsubishi dealerships = 77 Mirage sales/dealership

I just looked up the approximate dealership numbers for each brand. Since the dealership networks aren't even close, the Mirage is doing quite well in my opinion. The Mirage is not going to be popular where dealerships are lacking. That's not a problem for Chevy.

If my memory serves me right, you also helped the overall 2019 sales by buying a new Mirage, trading it in for an Outlander Sport, and then you bought another Mirage. Correct?
