From what I understand each individual entity of Mitsubishi, banking, shipping, motors, Fuso, electric, planes, etc. owns shares in each other. A typical Japanese keiretsu (mega corporation) so I think considering there is billions of yen invested in Daimler doesnt make it an entirely separate entity, otherwise why keep the name? With all that shared stock any division of Mitsubishi hurting can negatively effect the other. It's a big reason why I think Mitsu Corp will buy back Nissan's controlling shares in the next 5 to 10 years. Just a theory on my end, but Mitsubishi Motors has over a 100 year history making automobiles. There's alot nationalistic pride in keeping Mitsubishi Motors afloat even if Renault and Nissan crumble IMO. Nissan isn't doesnt have the mega corporation backing it like Mitsubishi does. It's all conjecture on my end though.

The Pandemic may change the automotive landscape for some companies. This is the most recent statement (May 27, 2020) I have seen coming from the Alliance & I have posted this before -

"Under the latest so-called leader-follower initiative, Nissan will focus on China, North America and Japan; Renault on Europe, Russia and South America and North Africa, and Mitsubishi on Southeast Asia and Oceania, for the benefit of the entire alliance."

A year ago - statements still seemed promising for Mitsubishi in North America, but a lot has changed since that time. The fact remains Nissan was #5 in sales in the States in 2019, & Mitsubishi was #24.

If Mitsubishi had its own identity, I would feel better about its future in North America. Alliance executives making decision, however, do concern me. I would hate to see Mitsubishi take the fall for Nissan's drop in sales.

A falling tide lowers all boats?

One of my constant questions about Mirage (and other cars') sales numbers is we aren't told how much of the number is made up of fleet sales vs. sales to individual buyers (retail).

We may be about to get a better glimpse of that, because...

...deliveries to fleet customers have plummeted. Hertz Global Holdings Inc., which filed for bankruptcy last month, has canceled car orders along with its peers Enterprise Holdings Inc. and Avis Budget Group Inc. as the coronavirus has ravaged the travel industry.

    This is a head-scratcher...

The Mirage (hatchback) rebate for June is actually less than it was last month?!?

I don't think dealers make a huge profit selling a discounted car like the Mirage. Financing, extended warranties, rustproofing, wheel/tire insurance, & other add ons help boost their profits. Does 0% financing cut into the dealer's profit margin? If a customer actually qualifies for 0% financing, I have to believe it impacts profit in some way?

White Bear Mitsubishi has been listing 2020 Mirage ES manuals for $10,999 for quite some time. That's basically the same price they were listing their remaining 2019 models. At times, I do a 250-mile radius search for 2017+ Mirage manuals. I do that range from my home, because it includes White Bear.

So what's the best deal -
2017 ES manual with 50,625 miles for $6,200 @ Jeep dealership
2018 ES manual with 24,535 miles for $7,996 @ White Bear
2017 SE manual with 43,597 miles for $8498 @ KIA dealership (Pryme's SE manual)
2018 ES manual with 15,575 miles for $8999 @ Chevy dealership
2017 SE manual with 27,302 miles for $9135 @ KIA dealership (Pryme's SE manual)
2019 ES manual with 7,939 miles for $9855 @ used car lot
2020 ES manual new @ White Bear for $10,999.

I'd pay an extra $1000-1,500 for a new one, but a used one for under $8000 & under 25,000 miles would probably received my most attention. If money was an issue, the $6,200 Mirage would surely serve someone well.

Hey Mark... I've been keeping an eye on White Bear's inventory. They must have received a shipment in the last week or so because they now have 85 Mirages in stock...including 22 ES manuals! Even "mega-dealers" in Ohio are lucky to have 1 manual transmission Mirage on the lot. There are 2 Mitsubishi dealers in my city and they don't have a single 5-speed between them.

    EDIT -

A manual transmission 2020 ES is now only $10,000 at White Bear.
Take another $500 off (Double $250 owner Loyalty) if you own a Mitsubishi product...

Rebate amounts don't seem to phase them like other dealerships. I respect White Bear, because they sold me a manual at a great price when they were sold out of them. Getting one from somewhere else didn't bother them one bit & I was asking for a 2017 when 2018 were already on dealer lots. At the same time, my local Mitsubishi dealership had zero interest in doing that for me.

If prices dropped near $10,000, it becomes harder to justify a slightly used one. Even at $11,000 for a new one, you may decide the full 10-year/100,000 mile warranty is worth spending slightly more.

There's nothing about the updated look of the 2021 Mirage that would make me pay extra for it. That's if we get that updated look in 2021?

By the way - their best cash price is new & that would be related to 0% financing for sure. In the past, financing gave you the best price (extra rebate).

I have a '17 5MT for sale with just over 16,000 miles for $8,250 OBO.

I have never felt good about Mitsubishi becoming a part of the Renault/Nissan Alliance. Rather than strengthen Mitsubishi's presence in North America, this new Alliance may be the downfall of Mitsubishi.

An Alliance that's hemorrhaging money may have to do drastic measures to turn things around. This could spell doom for Mitsubishi in North America. I hope that's not the case, however.

Ugh. We may not be getting that 2021 refresh after all.
