There are plenty of approaches to limiting electric vehicle impact on grid reliability, all of them entirely tenable.
For example, observe the following data related to grid demand and energy production ( specifically w.r.t. renewables) as recorded by California ISO. I'm sure that, even with a quick, high-level glance at those curves, you can come up with a host of strategies for mitigating increased demand from electric vehicles.
As some have pointed out, there's also the possibility for electric vehicles to feed back into the grid, as well, which would enable a huge amount of possibilities for EV owners. Hate the gubmint? Well, use your big brain and your EV to store up energy at night when there's low demand and it's cheap, then sell it back to the grid operators at the high rates during the day as punishment for making such dumb decisions. Governor Newsom will pay you to own an EV!
I'm honestly surprised at how quick the change is occurring, but it seems like most things ICE will be wrapped up by 2030 at this rate. Gonna be a lot of changes between now and then - should be interesting to see how it turns out.
All that being said, I'll definitely still be driving my Mirage at that point

I'm not sure that's how it will work. Last I checked electric is like $0.29 a KWH in CA and the money comes from screwing over everyone without the green tech.

U.S. Mirage sales down 34% from the same period last year:
The company is saying it's supply-related.

This is what my local Mitsubishi dealer's new car lot has looked like for the last year...
I've only seen a 2022 Mirage in pictures. No shock to me that their sales numbers are in a free-fall. But pretty much every new car dealer around me is like this.

24-pack of pop is up 100% from a few years ago. Sorry, I don't follow the price of beer.
A gallon of gas is up 100% from a few years ago.
A Mirage is up about 100% from a few years ago.
Pick most anything in between items like these, and they are up quite a bit. I'm still trying to adjust to car batteries being well over $100 in most cases.
Meanwhile, things like my retirement fund have taken an incredible hit. I am not even going to discuss the cost of health insurance.

"How much does a new car cost in 2022? Vehicles are also getting more expensive. The average price paid for a new vehicle was the highest on record in July at $48,182, up 12% from the prior-year period, according to Kelley Blue Book. Buyers last month paid on average $875 above sticker price in the non-luxury segment." Aug 18, 2022
My days of buying a new vehicle are probably done. It's not that I couldn't afford one. I'm just not willing to throw that much money at a vehicle. Plus, Darin has me thinking about electric bikes (much cheaper) now!
I believe I'm there with ya Mark. I've bought a few new vehicles in my life. A lot more used vehicles. The last new car was the Mirage. It may be my last.
I'm looking now to buy another (upgrade) car for my youngest son. I'll have to sell a car or two just to free up driveway space. But his will be well used. He's smart, he wants a Mitsubishi Starion / Chrysler Conquest TSi. But the one we found so far is one that should be kept in the garage and only driven out on nice days. He doesn't need such a nice, nostalgic car for a daily driver. But I don't blame him, he has good taste.
