I just drove my 23 year old Ram this morning. I drove my son, with all his crap, to GA Tech. That's where I'll be all day today. Orientation (transfer students) and then moving him into his dorm. The truck did just fine. Cept they made me park in a parking garage with 6'6" clearing. My truck has got to be 6'4" or 6'5". I had to dodge signs that were hanging down. I was very nervous. My antennae was hitting...

Canada 2022 sales & total US/Can sales ALL years

I've been slacking on keeping this thread updated the past few quarters.

(Thanks, Mark for taking the initiative with the year end numbers for the US.)

    Here's Canada for 2022:

Mitsubishi’s subcompact car Mirage had 1,626 units delivered in the calendar year
    https://www.mitsubishi-motors-pr.ca/...nd-q3-results/

Wow, that's actually up from the previous year (911)!

    ---

This year we'll surpass 200k Mirages sold in the U.S.

    TOTAL sales, 2014-2022:

US: 194,745 total sales at end of 2022.

    Canada: 20,525 @ end of 2022.

Mirage vs. the cheapest car (US)

The Nissan Versa sedan is officially the cheapest car in the U.S. (Though I've seen many bloggers mistakenly state that the Mirage is.) The base 5-speed starts at $15,730 (+ $1095 delivery).

The Mirage outsold it last year.

    USA:

The Versa had a HUGE drop last year. The previous year, Nissan moved 60,913 of them!

Unlike the Mirage, at least the Versa can still be had with a manual transmission (5-speed).

Rounding out the cheap car sales competition in the States for last year:

I'm too lazy to look up whether those can be had with a stick. Dim memory says "no" for the Accent.

"How many Chevrolet dealerships are there in the United States? There are 2,904 Chevrolet dealerships in the United States as of February 06, 2023."

    13,708 Sparks sold in 2022/2,904 Chevrolet dealerships = 4.7 Sparks/dealership

    Interesting fact -

    Malibu sales in 2021 = 39,376
That jumped to 115,844 in 2022

It didn't have to compete with the Sonic, Cruze, or Impala, or any of the Ford sedans!

Chevy would be foolish to drop their last iconic sedan. The Malibu is one of their historic halo cars IMO and my Mom's Malibu has over 200k miles on it and still going strong.

I use an Impala multiple times a week. My part-time job is spent entirely in an Impala, and it has been a good car. I try to take good care of it, because most of the other driving instructors are stuck using a Focus. I had a 2003 Malibu instructor's car before this 2015 Impala, and it was a good car, too. I don't buy the cars. I just use them. I took my driving test in my dad's 1977 Impala. I spent a good portion of my childhood in a 1966 Impala.

Today's Malibu is a 1.5 turbo with a CVT. I don't know if it would have the reliability of the older models.

Does Chevy outsource the JATCO CVT8 now?

The Crown Vic, AKA the LTD is gone, no? That was the last iconic Ford sedan.
Zero, 2014 ES Plus 5MT, written off but not forgotten.
Zero II, 2014 SE, 5MT, climate She's HOME now!
    Shelby AKA "Cute", 2017 ES 5MT, A/C.

Mirage owners look at the world differently than everyone else, but in a better way
We're driving the Beetle of the 21st century, the greatest small car now available!

Yes, the last one was made in 2011 IIRC. I still see them used by police, but they're slowly getting phased out with Explorers and Avengers. Considering our tax dollars funds all this, I'd insist that they start buying Camrys and Rav4s to save us money lol.

Time to start looking for a fire sale on 5-speed Versas?!?

I stumbled across this thread on a Versa forum. Sounds like a Versa 5-speed is also running at 3,000 RPMs at 60mph. Interesting that the consensus (at least in that thread) is that a CVT Versa actually does get better fuel economy than a 5-speed during freeway driving.
