Well, the warmer weather has been very nice. I am again consistently hitting 50+ mpg on my commute to work and back home. I'm looking forward to seeing how high it goes with the new mods done over winter. I also have a few mods to finish up.

On the other hand, I'm also looking forward to warmer weather to install the nitrous system.

Today was the first day driving the Mirage in about two months. I've been driving another car getting it ready to sell since it had a few issues. I am so glad to be back in the Mirage and really looking forward to continuing to play with it and have fun. With it being warmer, I am going to be finishing up some projects that I've started, and hopefully starting a couple more. I have some fun ideas.

Swarthy got some new tranny fluid today. I put in the Redline MT-LV 70W/75W that I've had for a while now.

Lots more talk about this thinner than OE spec trans fluid here:

Nice. Looking forward to seeing how this holds up for you, especially fuel economy and new funny noises.

I got a new set of rubber ordered today! I've been waiting for a good deal on tires, and I finally just pulled the trigger. I ended up going with Hankook Kinergy ST 185/60R14 tires for the OE steel wheels I have (they currently have my extremely bald enasaves on them). They have a decent rebate deal going on right now. I am really looking forward to having a LRR (low rolling resistance) tire on the car to see what it does for fuel economy. The current wheel and tire setup looks nice, but it really doesn't seem to roll the best.

These tires are what I found after doing a roundup of fuel efficient tires that fit on our OE wheels:

Here are my enasaves from when I picked up the car!

Swarthy got some new front pads and rotors yesterday. I had borrowed the car to my sister for about two weeks while I was out of the country. A day before she brought it back, she said the brakes started to grind. Turns out it was just the VERY noisy wear indicators on the very rusty rotors. But, it was still time.

For the rotors, I went with Raybestos coated rotors for a bit more rust protection since we use salt on the roads here. I look forward to seeing how these hold up. I've never used them before. It was nice not having to spray down and wipe the oil off the rotors... small perk so far I suppose.

For pads, I used Raybestos Element 3 hybrid pads. They're supposed to use ceramic and semi-metalic compounds so you get the best of both worlds. They do seem a bit more grabby than my previous set of ceramic pads that were on there. But, I gotta say, when I went to bed them in... wow they smell. I hope that goes away quickly. Granted, I'm not hard on brakes, but after only two semi-quick stops from only 40 mph you could smell them.

I also had a heck of a time installing these things. The outer pads would just NOT seat properly in the brake caliper. The pad has two very shallow pins that locate it on the caliper. These pins did not line up that well. I ended up filing them down a bit, and also putting them on the car and mashing the brake pedal to get them to seat properly. Here is how they fit initially.

I am quite happy to have the new parts on. The old brakes were quite rusty and were making a decent amount of noise. Here are some pics.

Here are the old pads. No idea how many miles they lasted.

I got the Kinergy ST tires put on the other day. I've made a few trips on them and I am liking them so far. I haven't even pumped them up and I can certainly tell a difference from my old Fuzion HRi tires at 50 psi. I can't wait to pump them up and see how they do at a higher pressure.

This also means I have steel wheels with wheel covers. I think I'd like to do smooth wheel covers. The OE covers that are shown are pretty flat, perhaps modable to be a bit smoother? We'll see.

In other news, my mirror blanking plate has not held up well to the heat of summer. It was printed in PLA material and well... you get the idea. I need to finish and upgrade to my printer so I can print this with ABS or some other material that can handle the heat. For the time being, I have a mirror again.
