MPG drop after reaching 100,000 miles

I looked around and didn't see any posts directly related to this, but did anyone else notice a significant MPG drop right after their Mirage hit 100k miles? I have a 2015 Mirage with manual transmission, and I have been getting consistent results for the lifetime of the car. Driving to and from work I should be averaging about 43 MPG. In the last week, the only change I am aware of is that the odometer rolled over 100k, but now I am lucky to get up to 38 MPG. I'm just wondering if there might be some programming in the system to change ratios or something after all warranties are up? Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Do you record & track your MPG every tank?

It's possible you're just noticing the annual efficiency hit that us northern lattitude folks experience at this time of year. 43 average dropping to 38 in winter is completely normal.

There's nothing in your car pre-programmed to change at 100k miles.

(My Mirage has 113k miles / 182k km on it and is still capable of ridiculously good mileage... in the 3 non-winter seasons. It's nowhere near as good in the winter.)

Many factors reduce MPG when the weather turns cold:

If you haven't changed anything about your driving style, I would suspect a difference in fuel formulation maybe. Just a guess. I could be in left field. Or perhaps you might have something going on ... like a caliper starting to sieze. I seriously doubt any change to your ECU program tripping over 100k.

Most of the year down south here, we have #2 diesel fuel. At some point, for a short time in the winter, we switch the #1. #1 has more anti-gel additives or some such crap. I'm not a fuel expert. #1 yields lower mpg that #2. Not a huge amount lower, but it is measurable.

Temperature induced oil related viscous drag.

    I have a 2017 ES manual with 84,000+ miles.

My mpg averages drop a few mpg during the winter months.

I blame it on winter fuel blends & snow tires mostly.

I agree. I live near oil refineries so I'm an expert, trust me.

Mine uses about 15 to 20% more fuel in the cold of winter than in summer.

I wore a blue suit today. Today it snowed. Did my blue suit make it snow?

I honestly think you might be onto something here. More research is needed.
