damaged oil pan from hitting object on the fway

Last week while driving 65-70 on the fway I hit what it seemed like a empty paint can. I check the car and only noticed just the bumper getting cracked and few plastic pins being off. The other day on close inspection and trying to tight everything down, noticed the damage was more extensive. The under shield had a scuff but not much more, but the black oil pan I think was indented inward about 1 inch. I called the dealer and asked what I should do, and they said if it does not leak or throws a code is fine. I was ok with that but I noticed that my cooling fan spins more than I am custom to at low speeds but also this morning being colder the lifters were making more ticking noise. SHould I be concern and change that black pan? Does anyone have a diagram of the engine parts?

Got a pic? Probably nothing to worry about unless your oil pickup got hit which is unlikely. Cooling fan is unrelated. If the pan has just a little dent and isn't leaking I'd just leave it.

Hmm, that is pretty close to the oil pump pickup screen in the pan

Oh yeah, you need a new oil pan ASAP! I wouldn't even run the vehicle any more until you replace the pan.

You've driven a week with this. Have you checked your motor oil level and condition?

Not sure if this means anything. Are you able to monitor your engine coolant temperature?

This is common when operating in colder temperatures such as what we are currently experiencing.

Yes, you should be concerned. As inuvik has already mentioned, that is close to your oil pump draw tube. Damage to that draw tube can impair the oil pump's ability to move oil to where it needs to go.

It appears you already have a week's worth of driving with this, and things seem to be going okay.

If you have the money and time, it would be wise to replace the pan and inspect the oil pump.

    Just my 2¢ worth.
