Just did brakes on all 4 wheels at 76,000km. (90% highway driving)
Fronts were in horrible shape with rotors suffering extreme rust damage with high ridges inner and outer edges. There was still a dime's thickness of friction material on thinnest pad. The "tattletales" were not even touching yet so no squeals.
I was able to purchase premium pads, rotors and rear shoes from Rock auto for $140.00 Can. Shipped to the border 30 min drive from my house.
The issue that prompted the brake change was a fully locked rear pass side wheel when I tried to leave for work in the morning. The wheel was free when I parked it.
After a tow to dealer service manager Roy could find no cause for one rear wheel lockup so proceeded to blame me, stating out loud to me directly that "someone" had over adjusted the park brake lever causing the wheel to lock. (On one rear only).
I said this was not the case but rather the star wheel had over adjusted itself to the point of locking one wheel. Dealer then changed his story to the rear brakes overworking as fronts were worn so over adjust was my fault also. Odd since I had 30,000km previous complained that this wheel would lock up prematurely just b4 coming to full stop when parking. Typical dealer BS. They quoted $680.00 + tax to replace pads, rotors, shoes and clean up rear drums as they were in great shape.
I refused the work and dealer charged me almost $200.00 for looking at it.
With that and the cost of parts I bought I still did it myself for half the dealership cost.
Anyway.. Raybestos and Rock auto believe the 1059PG shoes fit my '17 Mirage..they do not, so I have a set of useless shoes to get rid of as well.
Am dealing with Raybestos directly about it as Rock Auto accepts no responsibility for the part not fitting.
All this to say the star wheel adjusters work just fine. Possibly too well. No matter how you drive the stock rotors don't last long.
PS. Rock auto does list rear drums without bearings for my car for $55.00 each.
