Service lady "Hi, that knocking noise you heard was in fact the engine so were gonna install a brand new one. "
Me "oh wow, really..."
Service lady"yup, it'll be a week or so til the new one is in you can pick it up and drive it or...."
Me "keep it there til it's done if it's not in the way"
Once it's done it's getting cleaned up and sold. I don't need a $6000 Mirage. The $1000 one (+about $280 for windshield, rotors and pads) is working out fine so far. I wish the transmission would **** the bed already so I can replace it while I still have a spare. It'll probably start acting up once it warms up again.
And yeah, the knocky engine problems seem to be mostly a 2014-early 2015 problem(hopefully) and mostly in cold climate parts of the continent. I believe the 2017's have different pistons that help eliminate some of the problems in the cold. Different metal that doesn't shrink as much in extreme temp swings like wee sometimes get irc?
I noticed mine was noisy shortly after I bought it with 36k kms in the middle of winter. I just kept driving it like that from Dec 2019 til earlier this month(when I bought another much cheaper 2014 Mirage). We have a bunch of higher mileage(200-400k kms)out of warranty mirages that sound the same and they've been like that for years now so I just wasn't worried about it blowing up on me. But now I plan on selling it and wasn't sure what kinda hassle I'd get trying to get warranty on a car with now previous service records and being the third owner. The nearby mitsu dealer is never helpful. I ended up taking it across town to a Mitsu dealer I've never dealt with before rather than deal with the one I've dealt with through work for the past 6 years. Dropped it off last night after closing and got a call this afternoon. I figure it was a good call taking it there.
