Notable numbers from a news release about Mitsu's global sales results in 2017 ...
- Globally, Mitsubishi Motors sold 1,030,000 vehicles in the calendar year, up from 934,000 in 2016
- 8% increase in U.S. sales (to 104,000)
- 19% sales growth in Indonesia (to 80,000)
- 20% increase in the Philippines (to 71,000)
- 10% up in Australia (to 81,000).
- ASEAN business as a whole grew by 17% (to 242,000)
- Germany increased by 16% (to 45,000)
- Russian volumes increased by 45% (to 24,000)
- Japanese business up by 7% (to 92,000)
But the most interesting: sales growth in China rocketed past the U.S. to make it the top-selling single country:
Source: http://media.mitsubishicars.com/rele...olumes-in-2017The increase in sales volumes was led by China, a key market for Mitsubishi Motors' that recently announced a three-year strategic plan, DRIVE FOR GROWTH. In calendar 2017, sales in China rose by 56% to 129,000, and it became the group's largest market thanks to the strong demand for the locally produced Outlander.
Yet from what I can tell from searching the web, the Mirage is not offered in China.
That's a bit odd, isn't it, considering all the talk about the car being designed for "developing markets"? Mitsu doesn't sell the Mirage in Russia either, for that matter. I wonder why not.
