So the starter is working with the new brush holder assembly installed. I only bench tested it though, will know if it's going to work in a car another day.

And I'm off to install the "rebuilt" starter on another car that's broke down... This car crapped out around 260k kms / 161k miles. I'll post back if it works.

I just repaired the starter in my 2000 Metro winter beater.
Interested to hear what was wrong with this one.

I'm going to guess brushes like the other ones. I don't know if they had a hard time starting it before cause it's pretty common for me not to hear about a problem until the thing quits moving. When I tried to start this car it didn't even click. Installed the starter I slapped the new brushes in and it fired right up. I'll tear this one apart right now and see...

Is that starter smaller than a soda can? Look small lol. I love the mini sized parts.
Your delivery cars are starting tons more than your avg car. So getting 160k is good I'd say.
I had a duh moment. I shoulda bench tested it before tearing it down. Nothing looks broken. 1 brush is worn down pretty good, the one next to it is a little less, and the opposite 2 are in decent shape. I'm now wondering if it was a starter relay or something else but the car started right up after I replaced the starter and I didn't do anything else other than unhook the battery.
I'll put this one back together and try it out later today and see what happens.
I just hooked power to the solenoid and it doesn't do anything but spark a little. So far it's looking like the solenoid packed it in.

It's about average size I guess? It's not the size that matter's, it's how you use it Not much smaller than a starter from a new v8 gm but way smaller than the big old dodge or gms from the 80's and older.
The starter outlasted the cvt in this particular car. It crapped out around 200k kms/125k miles. I imagine I'm gonna start needing to stock some more brushes and solenoids as more of them start wearing out. I was constantly replacing starters in the old trucks that the cars replaced but the Mirage's are holding up pretty good. Most still have the original battery too. I haven't touched any alternators, ac compressors or anything else.
