Just done it yesterday, don't think it's worth practicing with a donor ecu as it's quite simple to do with etacs programmer

Etacs programmer is not free anymore, just buy 5 credits for less than 10$us, you'll only need one to get the cruise working.

Aliexpress has all the switches on the cheap, got the cruises button for the wrong steering but I was able to dissasemble them and put them in my stock blank cover.

Mitsubishi started using another switch for the brakes around 2019 as the one I pulled from a 2019 didn't have the same electrical connector as my 2015...

Yeah, they changed the brake light switch in 2017.
