North American gas prices hitting multi-year highs. Will people buy more Mirages?

Gas prices in the States just passed a fresh 2-year high as of the past couple of days. In Canada, it's at a 3-year high (and an all-time high on the west coast).

Are you hearing regular people talk about gas prices yet?

Think it'll translate into more interest in the Mirage and other fuel-efficient cars? Or are the pick-up truck & SUV "commuter vehicles" still flying off the lots??

I think that although people are starting to notice the higher prices, it's not quite high enough to change buying patterns yet. What is the price point? I know that here in the US $4.00 a gallon was definitely a driving force in people switching to small cars. For much of the rest of the world fuel prices are dramatically higher already.

Interestingly: nobody I know is talking about gas prices.

Prices have risen more or less gradually. A sudden spike might get a different result. Frog in the pot of water brought slowly to a boil...

One thing that drove interest in economy cars in the past was they were by default the ones that appeared on "Top 10" lists of "most efficient cars" that tend to run when gas prices are going up.

These days though, the EV's are going to top the lists, going by MPG-e.

Haven't heard much about the gas prices yet. I remember hearing a lot of people talk about gas prices when it was around the $3.50/gallon to $3.80/gallon in our area.

Now, it's been small chatter of PHEV vehicles with my car buddies. I really do think PHEV's are the future though. Especially with rising gas prices, it makes sense to get a PHEV car that will get 30-50 miles per charge. I know that a few people are considering PHEV vehicles just because that most of their daily shopping or errands are within a 30mile trip. So, PHEV are definitely going to 'change the game'.

As for the Mirage, maybe the value will go up since PHEV's are a bit pricey at the moment

I hope Mitsubishi offers another electric car, maybe based on the Mirage.

I don't think we'll see a spike in small car sales unless the prices go past $4.00 gallon, personally.

Around here the gas prices is being diluted by the rising costs of living. Rent is up, food is up.

Wow - 3106 Mirages sold in the US last month. That's a big jump over every month since March of 2017.

    Coincidence? Probably.

-- US gas prices are now at a 3 year high.

-- Mirage sales were slightly down, year over year, comparing April 2018 to 2017 (2069 vs. 2136), and down vs. March '18.

-- Traffic to the forum is also down, comparing the same months.

Conclusion: No gas price induced Mirage bump... Yet.
