It's sort of my theme. Aside from a few years autocrossing Miatas (one of which was a 1.6 Miata that I ran on completely stock suspension, cheap shocks, and 175-width all-season tires), I've always played with "underdog" cars. I started with a Saturn. Had some fun with a Yaris. "The Beater" (a ragged out 300k mile 1990 Miata). "Fred, the fugly red Miata" (a lightweight, back-to-basics project). The "FASTiva" (highly modified suspension on a 1991 Festiva). And now this.
I've had an Underdog decal on my helmet for years.
I like driving slow cars fast. And if they don't want to do it, I modify them until they do!

Quick update. I guess a few things have happened since June.
Added a lightweight crankshaft pulley, lightened the flywheel a little bit, replaced the engine with one from a 2017 CVT, replaced the battery with a 6.5 pound motorcycle battery. Probably a few other things that aren't coming to mind.
Just weighed the car today. Total weight is down to 1936. (3/8 tank of gas, no spare/jack, no floor mats)
Corner Weights: (with driver and spare tire)
Front: 666/601,
Rear: 443/414
I'll be removing the rear seat soon. That will get the weight below 1900!
Simplify and add lightness.
