I guess I could make an appointment at the "Brake Check" 35 mins from me (assuming service is cheaper there since they only do brakes) or just take it to the local "Firestone" fill-auto-repair which is 10 mins down the road. Decisions decisions.
To check the rear brakes all you have to do it remove the wheel, pop off a dust cap then remove a 30mm nut. The drum usually just pulls right off. If it won't come then bolt the wheel back on and spin it while you pull. I've only had to do it that way a couple times.

Drum brakes aren't bad to replace on these cars. The 14-15's are really easy once you figure out how they mount and how the adjuster works. You can assemble the shoes and the upper springs on the floor/bench then install as one piece and add the lower springs once in place. At least that's how I remember doing it. Sometimes had to loosen up the e-brake adjuster(at the rear of the console) to get the drums back on after installing new shoes or drums and shoes.

Do you happen to know? And I'm getting this strong feeling I did not need to replace them. On top of that my parking brake now only goes to three-four clicks .. which is considerably tighter than the seven to nine it was. To be honest I thought 7-9, although fact spec, felt loose. 3-4 feels too tight.
    New linings were 6mm thick.
Aftermarket linings (JP, a Danish brand) 4.5mm thick

    Brake fluid DOT4

Handbrake lever: Do not adjust it to be too tight, because it needs some slack for the automatic adjustment to work properly. In doubt, better a bit looser than too tight.

I just measured a brand-new aftermarket shoe (part number RSS924) and it measures 3.8-3.95mm of brake pad material. As for your e-brake goes, you can adjust that via the little flap at the rear of the center console. There's a threaded rod in there with 10mm nut, turn the nut to adjust slack in e-brake cable.

Here's what the service manual says for 2014-2015 (I don't have 2017+ specs)...

    2014-2015 Mirage Drum Brakes

    New thickness .......... 3.8 mm
    Minimum thickness ... 2.0 mm

I have a brand new set of 2014-2015 OEM brake shoes sitting right in front of me and they are 3.5-3.8 mm.

If you read GotMirage501's other post, it sounds like the dealer sold him new brake shoes when he didn't need them.

I’ll dump this here while I remember for future reference.

The best deal I found on 2014-2015(North American little 181mm drums) is these bestbuy labeled ones. I’m not sure if it’s just a Canadian only deal or not? My cost(wholesale) is 1/3 of what rockauto wants for their cheapest one@$91cad. Usually their prices are the same as my cost here. They’re loaded drums with bearing, studs and and ring already installed.
Attachment 26562Attachment 26563 maybe a mod could move copy this and dump it into the parts thread.
