Replaced the brake pads at 97,500km & Powerstop Z23 review
Installed my new brake pads at 97,500 Km with the Powerstop Z23 Carbon Ceramic Pads. The brake pads is noticeably better than stock. It has better bite when braking. The brakes feels stronger when theyre warmed up but still very consistent feeling Through out the de acceleration until stopped.. Theyre very quiet brakes and I am very satisfied with this product. I heard from other reviews that they produce very low unnoticeable dust but I can’t tell since I have my winter steel wheels on. They’re very light brake pads compared to fully ceramic or semi-mettalic pads. The only minor issue is that the two notches on the plate of outer facing pad doesn’t go in the holes of the caliper by hand, or as easily as the OEM. I got around this by using a C Clamp by forcing it in the caliper. It might be hard to remove when the pads are due, but I put an anti seize to make it easier to uninstall. If anyone knows the min rotor thickness, please let me know. The imprint on the backing of the rotors is rusted from Canadian winter.
Everything looks gorgeous, great job but I gotta say. To the untrained eye, the black hood could look like a replace you had to pull out of a wreck yard, like you see with doors. I'd rice it out even harder, put a lone racing strip with some waifu anime characters on the side.
Just installed the Rockville RW10CA 10” slim subwoofer bringing the mirage’s max audio system output to 940 watts*. The whole system is capable of 1,250 Watts max with an amplifier. Even without the amp, blasting the speakers makes everything rattle lol. They sound amazing if you’re looking to do the same setup. Bass is so strong that it vibrates the side mirror intensely.
Specs:
JBL GTO629C 270W Component front
JBL GX602 180W Coaxial rear
Rockville RW10CA 10” slim subwoofer 800W
Doors are partially soundproofed with Dynamat
*Stock Head unit max RMS: 140w + subwoofer: 800W = 940W total
01/2021 update (140k kms) - New rotors, brake pads, OZ racing wheels & tires.
I installed a new set of powerstop rotors.
Rotor Part # POWER STOP JBR1762XPR
Ceramic brake pads part # CENTRIC 10517310
The new rotors are significantly lighter. Compare it to the weight of a used worn rotor vs the new one which can be seen on the photos, it is still lighter. The Previous Z23 Powerstop worn down too quick, @ 40k kms. The stock lasted 90k kms. Centric pads felt like the stock and I assume it will last as long so I do not have to keep on changing since I stack a lot of KMs on the mirage as courier vehicle. Z23 powerstop is the best pads in terms of performance and braking sensitivity but longevity is not so good. The Centric and Z23 pads does not have much dust.
I highly recommend a 10” gear puller to pull the rotors out if hammer doesn't not help or its stuck like mine from canadian winter road salt. Apply an anti sieze on the on the hub for easier removal of the new rotors.
The oz racing ultralegarra 15” wheels will be installed when spring comes. Theyre light as the RPF1. Stay tuned for photos
Prothane / Energy suspension Polyurethane bushings Sway bar upgrade
See images for parts list I compiled.
Tools required (sway bar bushings installation) :
12mm standard socket and deep socket
Medium/blue loctite
Prybar
Brake cleaner/degreaser
Hair dryer/heat gun to make the polyurethane bushing flexible when mounting onto the bar
And of course, jack stands, jack or ramp
Installation time:
30min-1hr
Recommendation:
I recommend the greasable bushing so they last longer or can be greased up when they start to squeak. Prothane has a durometer rating of 80 vs energy suspension 75. Stock is close to 50. So i recommend prothane for stiffness but its your pick how firm you like it.
Test drive #1:
Steering felt more sharper and handling has improved. A little less body roll. Polyurethane End links are not installed yet. Ill update you all when theyre installed and go for a test drive.
Test drive #2: With polyurethane end links:
To be updated.
Measurements:
18mm swaybar thickness
Stock end links height (sway bar to lower control arm): 51mm
99.8WH Earthx ETX900 4.6LB
Interstate battery with Rubber heat shield and mounting hardware: 38LB
It can easily start the Car @ 4 degrees C. I have not done a cold start sub 0 temps.
I can feel the difference, with 34LB weight off from the engine bay. I have eibach lowering springs and the bottom outs is very harsh. The impact is less since theres less weight at the front. The swaybar bushing also made a significant impact. It felt like I have gotten a new struts. Since this is lower capacity than the SLA battery, I have an OBD2 that shows the voltage so I can monitor it and not drain it all the way down when car is on start-accessory mode while radio is on.

That's an interesting looking battery - it looks like it is designed to replace lead-acid technology. What led you to that particular model? Are there others like it out there?
Edit: Is this your battery? earthx ETX900 At $449.00USD/ea that's one expensive battery!
