    another one bites the dust

I was on my way to get an alignment and oil change and this happened. Traffic picked up fast, and then stopped faster. Did not have time to avoid it since the car in front of me had stronger brakes and ended up under it. The car did well and only walked away with a airbag burn.

Sorry to hear. Is your car totaled? What vehicle did you hit? How much damage did the other vehicle have? Glad you walked away.

It seems they are taking it to co-part, not a body shop. The car was a KIA optima, from 2012 by the body style. It had some damage, but nothing like mine!

    Glad you got away unhurt!

But, I'm a driving instructor. At a minimum, every car crash is a learning opportunity. And almost every car crash can be avoided. (sometimes not by you... but, by someone)

Your job is to analyze the situation, figure out what YOU could have done differently, and own it. Trust me, I've been in my share of car crashes... the last one of any significance was over 30 years ago. (now I just back into stuff in the garage!) But, I had plenty of them when I was younger, and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them could have been avoided by me.

My bet: You were (like 90% of everyone else on the road) following too closely and not looking/thinking far enough ahead.

Don't just follow the idiot in front of you. Drive your own game!

Sorry for the rant. But, maybe we can keep someone else from the same fate? Or keep YOU from doing it again.
    Simplify and add lightness.

    That stinks. Glad you're ok.

Any chance you could salvage some of the car? I reckon the brakes, suspension & front fender side marker lights would be in demand. I know I'd be interested in them.

    Think you'll get another Mirage?

Any time you can walk away it's a good thing.

If I remember correctly you have a 2017 with 40K+ miles, right? It's a safe bet it's totaled...

The steering wheel and knee air bags retail for $1800 combined.
The 2 fenders and hood are almost $1000.
Probably another $1000 wrapped up in the front bumper cover and various front trim/support pieces.
A single HID headlamp assembly is almost $1000.
If you damaged the AC condenser that's another $500.

So you're close to $5,000 in parts alone...and that assumes everything from the front doors and back hasn't been touched. Add in paint and labor and this may be a $7,000+ repair.

How? The insurance will pick it Thu to take it to co-part! Not sure is legal to do that!

My wife has one, but I am not sure I will. I want something more main stream to have more parts available since the insurance cost so much on insure them. Will work hard to pay off the lancer since that costs as much as the two mirages! 900 vs 1300 for both mirage for 6 months!
