The limitation in braking performance on the Mirage is the tires. Bloodehunter touched on this a few posts back.

Yes, the master cylinder is adequate. The rest of the braking system is adequate. Its the tires that stop the car... and they could certainly be better. But, they were chosen for their economy characteristics.

Here's one of my favorite sets of articles on braking. Written by a brake system engineer and amateur racer. Pretty cool guy, and a great read for anyone who wants to learn the basics of braking system physics without getting too deep.

Raybestos EHTs have significantly more 'bite' than stock. They also seem to last longer.

Worth noting that "more bite" just means that they engage quicker and "feel" better. That's not a bad thing. But,they don't actually stop the car any quicker.

ABS will engage more often than usual as well.

They don't fade as much when hot, either. And brakes that engage faster may well have prevented this thread.

Maybe. But, not likely. Just like in a lot of motorsports, the two biggest factors are tires and driver, not necessarily in that order.

If you owe $14K on a 2017, you may have paid too much for it...or maybe you rolled some negative equity into the deal? At least you weren't hurt AND you can walk away without a financial nightmare. If I owed that much on a Mirage, I would be hoping for someone to total my car so I could run away from it.

The unfortunate reality of owning a Mirage is that its value as a used car is pretty lousy. If you buy a new Mirage, you'd better be getting it at a heavily-discounted price or you're better off buying one used. No matter how many little upgrades they slap on a Mirage, I still see it as a $10,000-$12,000 car.
