Do you drive on dirt roads? Any chance you picked up a rock, or managed to bend the brake backing plate behind the rotor? If you bend that just a little bit, it can contact the rotor. Metal-on-metal.

A stray rock wedged in there can make all sorts of horrible noises, too.
    Simplify and add lightness.

Your rotor surface doesn't exactly look good...and that's the side we can actually see in those photos. I wonder what the back side looks like?

The portion of the rotor contacted by the pad should be smooth and clean...like this...

Yes...the rotor hub is rusty...but the friction surface is clean.

Rusty/pitted areas of the rotor surface (where the pads make contact) is not ideal...and it looks like that is what's starting with yours. This is an extreme picture...but you get the idea...

You have a lot of rust in general going on there. That's probably where your grinding noise is coming from. If you just installed new brake pads without replacing the pad clips and lubricating everything properly (as explained in forma's post #3), you should consider starting over with new components. I'd toss those rotors if they were on my car.

    Somewhat related...

When my car was brand new, I disassembled the front brakes so I could paint the calipers and caliper mounting brackets. I was shocked by how little lubrication was on the caliper slide pins. I could definitely see where they might not move so freely after an extended period of time without being serviced.

I'd recommend buying those powder coated brake rotors. http://brakeperformance.com/brake-ro...-brake-kit.php

Had a quick look in YeePay and in this part of the world, a set of aftermarket rotors plus a set of pads costs about €35, being round about US $40. I think thats affordable.

I did notice that there is a lip around the edge forming. I think Syracuse's rust is killing my rotors.

I did lub up all "moving areas" around the pads and what not. I think i will take it all apart and sand and paint. My poor car looks like this after 3 years.

Did that take care of all the noise?
