Red face New, mostly lurker for now

    Hi guys,

Proud owner of a 2017 ES here. Purchased from Carvana, got it with 12,500 miles on it. Carvana picked it up from auction, the prior owner was a dealership in GA. This was especially appealing because Mitsu has all the maintenance records on file, and I don’t have to worry about anything besides regular maintenance for the warranty.

Here in Tampa, I’ll be using the car primarily for commuting. Super excited for 33 months from now when I will have the little car paid off, and get to enjoy transportation for next to nothing.

So far, I’ve done just a little work on the plates for the car. Carvana drilled holes in the front bumper to put in their vanity plate, so I replaced it with a Mitsu logo plate in black and silver, using their brace. I’m looking forward to tinting the windows, changing the wheels, and upgrading the sound system over the next few years, and will be relying on y’all for guidance through those processes.

All in all, happy to be here, happy to own my little Roux de la Rue, and looking forward to getting to know everyone.

    Welcome!

Can you tell us about your Carvana experience? I see the commercials all the time...I just wondered if the service is worth considering.

Friend of mine did Carvana and raved about it. Easy transaction. They offered reasonable financing (that he didn't use). Quick and painless delivery.

Great! Welcome. Glad to see another Mirage in Florida. Its such a great car for Florida, so easy to park. Check out groupon for the tints. When they offer the 20% off coupon code (happens at least once per month). I only paid 65$ for tinting and they came to my house to do it. They did a great job.

The tints + sun-shades on the windshield will pay for themselves inside of 2 years with the a/c savings (not having to cool down a hot-box) and yeah get a new stereo, new speakers and a small amp. Hang on to the stock stereo to put it back in when you sell the car.

This is such a great car for Florida. Thieves walk right past it, cops ignore you. It flies under the radar in the Big City and its more than capable to get you around town and on the motorway.

On balance, I was largely pleased with my Carvana experience. I have subpar credit, so it was nice to have such simple and straightforward terms. With a vehicle as affordable as the Mirage, the interest hit wasn’t too painful, and I have a nearly new, reliable vehicle that is still covered by factory warranty. Compared to getting a Jetta or Leaf through Carvana, it seemed like a no brainer, especially since I was able to get my hands on a stick. After all the interest and cost of a dealer warranty, it was nearly twice as much for an older hatch or hybrid versus my Mirage. Not too sure if I’d have liked the CVT, but the manual is responsive enough. It can be fun to wring every last drop out of the gearbox.

Now I did have a somewhat unique experience, in that my Mirage had been in the parking spot in front of my building for just a few hours when my neighbor backed into it. There was damage to all three panels across the top of the rear passenger wheel well. Maybe I’d have returned it if there was another 5MT available, but the only other one at the time had 60k miles down, so I decided to stick it out with this one. So far I’m happy with the choice, but it felt like my hand was being forced a little at the time.

The car is perfect for me. I live in a historic part of town with some brick avenues, and the Mirage suspension is more deft than my partner’s 2013 Infiniti G37 on these roads. Parallel parking is the easiest it’s ever been. Cost of ownership is wonderfully manageable, and the a/c does a great job in the Florida summer.

The mileage is truly incredible. Doing about a gallon a day or less in my normal commuting.

Can you post a picture of the damage? Also how do you mean "I would have returned the car"? You mean the Carvana will allow a car to be returned after sustaining body damage from a parking crash?

Wow, I would be so angry with that neighbor. Who is going to be financially responsible to fix that body damage?

My neighbor’s insurance covered the repairs totally. And yes, I was angry, but I could only imagine how angry the uphill battle would have made me trying to avoid any responsibility. As I said, there was no better option in the Carvana inventory available at the time.

I’ve been 100% satisfied with the vehicle, despite the initial bitterness.

To elaborate a bit, Carvana has a 7-day return policy, and the damage occurred to n the first day after purchase.

Oh wow. Thanks for sharing this data. Wow I am really impressed with the policies of Carvana.

Im glad to see in the photos that the damage was not too bad and it will not damage the structural integrity of the car.

Nice color, too. I wish they had red available when I bought mine but I bought new and the only ones available where silver or dark charcoal (in stick).

Most of us on the forum paid over $10k for ours new so if you managed to get substantial savings by buying used then you made a smart decision.

The red looks GREAT! Give it a nice wash and wax with Nu-Finish and its going to look awesome.

Im really happy with mine. After 2 years of experience with driving it (and acknowledging its limitations as far as acceleration in 1st or 2nd) I feel that it is more than capable of city and highway commuting. Sure, I cant take the same risks pulling out of a parking lot onto fast moving traffic as I could with a V-6 but it just means I have to wait a few seconds for a slower opportunity to enter. The car discourages reckless driving and thats a good thing, could save your life.

Its a nice little car and the most efficient means of getting from point A to point B. If this country ever went communist we would all be driving a Mirage, LoL. Not that I support or agree with communism or socialism even one iota.
