    Mirage Race Cars in Asia

I know there are a few autocrossers here on MirageForum.com, and there are fire-breathing 4G63T and 4B11T-powered rally Mirages (that have more in common with an EVO than a Mirage) out there. I always wondered, however, if people were road racing these little cars, complete with the 1200cc engine. Well, it turns out they are.

It looks like the Indonesia Touring Car Championship has (or had) as 1200cc class that included the Mirage as well as the Honda Brio among others. In addition, I found a couple of one-make race videos from what I believe is Thailand on YouTube.

    I absolutely love this.

You can check these out on Subcompact Culture.

You guys can check out this user Suraruk Nanaen on YouTube. He races his supercharged Attrage in Thailand. Initially he was racing with a cvt but now has gone to MT. You can check out his YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/MrSuraruk

Nice article - that's some good research!

The one-make Mirage/Attrage racing video is particularly excellent!

I'm certain this hatch is probably under 1,700 lbs. if not quite a bit less (since a factory version weighs just over 2,000 lbs.).
Don't forget, the North American spec Mirages are the heaviest of the lot. If I'm not mistaken, the base '14's in Indonesia were around 1800 lbs. Haven't checked what the '18's are up to.

Thanks! What makes the North American ones heavier? More soundproofing?

Soundproofing, safety equipment, other features/equipment that come standard on our cars that were optional elsewhere.

It's amazing how different the cars sound in the One Make race video. Surprislingly "bass"-y, and quieter than some 4-cylinder one make races I've seen/heard.

Agreed. I've love to open up the exhaust on my Mirage, but that welded one-piece exhaust (with integrated cat) makes it difficult (and potentially expensive. I guess it'd just be a cut-n-weld affair.
