2017 G4 rear seat removal-rear seat support or structural support?

    hi guys,

I have a question, I remove the rear seat (seat and back rest)on my 2017 mirage G4. I did this to gain more room and make the car into a sort of a hatch back.
Two supports remain after I removed the seat.

My question is this, are the function of these two supports (shown in the attached picture) to support the back of the rear seat OR are they structural supports? I am not an engineer and would welcome all opinions !!!

    many thanks in advance!!!!

I also have a 2018 G4. I think it is for support of the back rest but not 100% certain.

Here is a thread posted back on 10/16. Post #13 discusses about the braces.

    Many thanks FloridaG4 !!!

Many good points in that thread, I tend to agree that if these supports were for structural integrity they would have been welded in.

How they're designed and how they tie into the car tells me they are structural. How much? No idea. You'd probably never notice unless you got hit in the rear end from the side.

If i ever have to move something or many stuff with my G4 i wouldn't hesitate to remove the rear back rest and unbolt those braces. It wouldn't be a permanent thing but only for the occasional times i needed to move something. I wish there was a way to make the back rest recline with a latch and pivot points for the times when you want to lower the back rest.

Anybody know if the newest G4 has a folding rear seatback yet?

I like the amount of rear seat room the G4s have, but the non folding rear seat killed it for me.

I can get more in my slightly shorter hatch.

A 'pass through', yes. A fold-down rear seat, NO. This is a 2019 G4 ES.

It's such a roomy, tall trunk too!

A fold down seat would just take the cake.
