2012 Scion iQ vs 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage

I've been meaning to do this for a while, my impressions of the Mirage versus my old iQ:

    Scion iQ:

    • Curb weight: 2,127 lbs
    • Larger i4 Engine: 1.3 liters / 94 hp
    • Direct injection engine, with known carbon build-up issues
    • Smaller fuel tank: 8.5 gallons
    • Smaller turning radius: 13.2 ft
    • Larger stock wheels: 16"/5"
    • Even more obscure stock tire size: 175/60R16
    • 6 segment fuel display - last segment blinks at 2.5 gallons in the tank
    • Lower EPA fuel mileage: 36city / 37highway / 37combined
    • Smoother CVT, but not geared as well for the highway
    • Better steering feedback
    • 3+1 seating
    • Little body roll

    Mitsubishi Mirage:

    • Curb weight: 2,018 lbs - 2,128 lbs
    • Smaller engine: 1.2 liters / 78 hp
    • Multipoint injection engine without direct injection drawbacks
    • Larger fuel tank: 9.25 gallons
    • Larger turning radius: 15.1 ft
    • Smaller stock wheels: 14"/4.5"
    • Uncommon stock tire size: 165/65R14
    • 10? segment fuel display, with multiple fuel level indicators
    • Better EPA fuel mileage: 37city / 43highway / 39combined
    • Jerkier CVT, but better gearing for the highway
    • "Dead" steering
    • 5 person seating
    • Worse body roll

Overall, the Mirage is more practical, but I miss the steering feel of the iQ.

You left out weight. (I think the iQ is slightly lighter)

And the Mirage is available with a proper manual transmission.

And you can get a newer (or even new) Mirage. They quit selling the iQ in the US in 2015, but only sold about 500 2015 models. So, most US iQ's are 2011-2014.

I wanted an iQ from the first time I saw one... if only they'd offered it with a manual transmission.
    Simplify and add lightness.

    Updated with curb weights.

Having never driven a manual, I have nothing to miss. (I drive a lot of stop and go traffic, too, so that would get annoying fast).

Wow...I never realized those things had a back seat!?!

What is 3+1 seating...and has anyone ever had 5 adults in a Mirage?!?

So, the front passenger seat can move farther forward than the driver, so fitting three people is doable. However, you pretty much have to be a child to fit behind the driver seat, which is the +1.

If you have the back seats up, though, you have virtually no storage space behind the hatch.

Story of my life! I get that there aren't a lot of people who want a manual transmission anymore. But the people who do want them REALLY want them.

Odd, I don't remember any recalls for mine, but the US (Scion) version only had the 1.3L engine.

Different looking car for sure, super rare in my area of Canada, southern ontario. You see more mirages than you think here, but this is the land of pickups, and suv crossovers like the new eclipse cross.

Proportions and 142 inches or so or less length, yours is a smaller car, similar to Mirage but Mirage is plainer looking
