I replaced the subframe on my sons Mirage after he bent it running the car into a ditch the winter before last and neither his or the used subframe I bought had any accumulation of anything in them.
Ditto. The A.C. drain hose is the first thing I thought about when I read the original post. It's normal for water to drip from the front passenger side if you use the A.C.

Yes .. it's coming from the A/C. I have this hose extension put long time ago.

    Subframe rust out

One fix, if you're keeping the car for years, is to first clean it (pressure wash) then dry, even using a heat gun to be sure no moisture is hiding in frame.
Next spray in any permanent lubricant/sealer you can find, like undercoating, Fluid Film, etc. After this step, fill all cavities with spray foam, the expanding type. Make sure you see it squirt out all openings.
When that sets, trim excess, and paint over it.
The lubricant will prevent rust, the foam will keep water out, and as a bonus feature, will add sound deadening

The expanding foam is an interesting idea
Have you tried it before? I wonder how this treatment holds up long term.

Yep, it works great, as long as you don't get into a repair, like accident damage. All that foam has to burn off or be cut away before you can weld

I first used it 30 years ago on a rusted out Masda wagon, mostly to stop air flow in winter.
And on that dreaded front member on my '93 Metro.

As long as it is not exposed to direct sun for long periods of time it will hold up for years.
Sun will slowly turn the surface to powder, but that takes years.

Yeah That's one of the first thing I observed when I opened the hood while the AC is running. what size if hose did you use as extension?
