Mine still looks really clean. I would probably replace with a Wix or other quality filter when due.

Good reason or justification to change engine air filters at the recommended intervals, which is 30,000 miles for schedule 2. If conditions are bad, sooner is better!
I've always done 30,000 miles, & I haven't even given it much thought. It's easy to do, & air filters aren't that expensive.
I recently changed the engine air filter on my Subaru. I replaced a cheap Fram air filter with a STP air filter (carried by AutoZone). The STP air filter had twice as many pleats, & they make an air filter for the Mirage ($16.99). STP filter may not be cheaper or better than the Wix, but it seemed like a quality filter to me. Sort of surprised that Fram doesn't make an air filter for the Mirage, not that I would go out of my way to buy one.
I ended up going with the WIX. I ordered it from Rock Auto, and it shipped from the same location as the other things that I had ordered (oil filter and winter wiper blades).
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block
Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

I've used the Ecoguard, Wix, and Premium Guard (all from Rock Auto) as well as the $46 Mitsu genuine filter.
The Ecoguard wasn't great, but can't say I noticed much of a difference between the other 3.
I always figure that 'cheaper and frequent' beats sporadic quality.
I change every 10k-20k kms ( 6,200 - 12,400 miles)
