    Exhaust question!

Ok so i have a 2015 mirage hatch and was curious about an after market exhaust. I was looking into the exhaust header that removed the first cat. My question is there anyway to pass New York emissions with any mods to the exhaust setup?

I'm mostly looking for a more aggressive sound but not ridiculous in volume maybe a power improvement if applicable.

If you're just looking to keep the check engine light off, adding a CAT behind the heater should do the trick. You may have to extend the O2 sensor wiring to get it where it needs to go, but that should work. If they do a visual check then its a bit more iffy. I'm not sure what they all check for.

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

i think they use an exhaust sniffer thing. What if you remove both cats and put in a single high flow? Would it filter the same amounts? I am not to clear on these concepts.

I believe that should work. That is how cars used to be before they started moving the CATs up to just off the exhaust manifold. Just make sure to get your car nice and warmed up before going to get tested.

If all you want is a louder exhaust, consider simply removing your resonator, muffler, or both and keeping the emissions controls as they are - especially if you don't fully understand 1. how it will affect your Mirage and 2. your state emissions laws (some states conduct a visual inspection for alterations.)

I'm not sure if you have searched the forum for exhaust modifications, but here are some threads for inspiration:

The soundtrack to that video reminds me of a theme song to a children's cartoon show. Not sure if that's the audience they are trying to attract...
