the batt reads at 10 and when started getting only 5.

Atleast i can say that my alternator is ok and problem is the battery.

will buy a new one but will take me 2 weeks because my pay check will still be on the 15th of Nov. Lolz

Congratulations on verifying the problem logically for yourself. Seems like you learned a thing or two.

Small note: in "Taglish" (colloquial Filipino, a mix of Tagalog and English), "series" is synonymous with "jumper". It has nothing to do with how the two circuits are electrically connected.

Jumper cables work by connecting the two batteries in parallel. You get the same voltage, but more amperage, which is what you need to start the car.

I'm wondering where the term originated. I can only speculate that it came from the jeepney community w/c later found its way into the local motoring world. Car owners became accustomed w/ using the word although technically, it is not correct.

You go to ACE hardware, you will not find any "SERIES" cable. You go to local websites: carmudi, topgear, etc. you will not see articles on "series" cable.

Maybe, it's about time that we, the more informed ones, educate people simple things.. no pun intended.

If that's the slang term, using it is fine. But, understanding what the actual word "series" means is kinda fundamental to understanding a lot of electronic circuits.

I find local slang language to be a fascinating topic.

I know. I have some background in electrical engineering and the term still triggers me head-scratchin' reflex. But I'm used to hearing it from local shade-tree mechanics by now. At any rate, I've always seen them hook up jumper cables in parallel. Perhaps those who actually did the jumpers in series got their Darwin Awards.
